The rain only poured harder and harder, and I had no idea how much the hut would be able to withstand. I laid in my small hammock in the corner of the hut , and tried to calm my nerves, but the constant cracks of lightning, and roars of thunder prevented that, and the sunlight now was completely blocked out by storm clouds, making the sky as dark as night.
Eventually, my nerves calmed, and I fell in and out of sleep.
I don't know how long I was sleeping for, but when I awoke, the rain poured harder than it had before, and the winds were louder, and shook the hut, which woke me up for good. There was no telling how long I had been sleeping for. The dark clouds were still blocking out the sun.
I became increasingly worried as the winds didn't die down, but kept getting stronger, causing the hut to sway back and forth, putting it's support to test.
Surely the hut could survive the storm, I knew it could. My thoughts quickly changed when ten minutes later I heard a loud crack, that didn't sound like lightning, but wood.
Oh crap... I thought. The hut started to sway more and more, and farther and farther to each side, gaining more momentum. More cracks came from the failing support beams, pleading for the wind to stop, but it kept going.
I decided I shouldn't stay in the hut much longer, and ran to exit, but that was a crucial mistake. Within a few steps, multiple loud cracks of wood overpowered the thundering sound of the rain, and the hut started to collapse and fall.
I gripped the floor for dear life, and time felt like it nearly froze as the hut collapsed on itself. It felt like minutes before the hut slammed into the ground with a violent crash, wood flying and breaking all around me.
I screamed out in pain as a sharp pain stabbed right through my arm. I gripped my arm, but was fearful to look at it. I glanced at it for second, and saw that a fragment of wood broke right through my skin, and came out of the other side of my arm.
"ahhh, ohmy god, ohmy god" I whispered, panicking and breathing heavily. Blood dripped out of both sides of the wound, and onto the wood and jungle floor. The chunk of wood was still attached to a wooden beam that fell, and I tried to break it off, but it wouldn't budge. I didn't even consider pulling the wood out of my arm without having some way of stopping the bleeding.
I looked around, desperate to find one of my clubs or any axe of mine. I kicked away rubble of now broken beams that my feet can reach, looking for anything sharp, but the pouring rain made visibility low.
I kicked the remaining beams harder and harder away from me, tears pouring from my eyes in pain, but as I kicked the last beam I could reach, luck found me. There laid on axe, directly under it.
My feet gripped the axe and I pulled it up to my good arm, and I started to chop at the wood. Then a sound came from the trees behind me, that I so desperately wish I didn't hear. A low growl came from behind the trees near me. Crap.
My hits to the wood were much harder. More desperate. I gasped for breath, trying to hold in the pain from my arm. I needed to escape.
Finally, with a powerful blow, the wood broke off and I was free, just as the jaguar lept at me. I rolled away on top the rubble and dodged the jaguar, and got up as fast as I could. Axe still in hand, and a chunk wood still stuck through my arm. The jaguar growled and faced me, trying to intimidate me.
It suddenly came flying at me. I swung my axe and grazed its side just as it's claws grazed my arm. I felt the blood start to drip down, but chose to ignore it. However, I couldn't ignore the growing pain in my arm. It throbbed faster and faster, as my heart accelerated, blood still oozing out. It hurt terribly.
There was no way I could fight the jaguar. It ran towards me, and I dodged it just in time, and ran. I sprinted as fast as I could through the downpour, looking for a place to hide, or just get away from it. I was completely soaked as I ran through multiple puddles that were as big as small ponds.
The jaguar followed close behind me, growling and roaring out, wanting to kill. I tried to confuse it, weaving in and out of trees, changing directions randomly, and throwing things as distractions, but none of it worked.
I was panic stricken, I had no idea what else to do. As I was about to give up and going to try to fight again. Something caught my eye. There was a large tree off to the right, with a few vines on it. There would be no way the jaguar would be able to climb in this weather. He would slip. Hopefully I wouldn't.
I changed directions again and darted to the tree I saw, and without delay, I jumped up and grabbed the vine, trusting it with my life. I climbed as fast I could, which wasn't too fast because of my arm. Indescribable pain shot from my arm throughout my body each time I pulled myself up. I screamed out in pain each time.
The jaguar was close to follow and stopped at the base of the tree, looked up at me, and jumped. He had to have jumped at least ten feet. His claws missed me by mere inches. I glanced back quickly, then climbed higher. It jumped again, getting a grip on the tree, and my nightmare became a reality. The lack of grip didn't make him slip, it only slowed him down. I cried out, scared to death now, pulling myself up, keeping an extremely tight grip on the vine, as the jaguar, slowly but surely, climbed after me.
I had no idea what to do at that point, except climb. Climb, and don't think about the jaguar straight behind me.
But then, I came up with an idea, and at the perfect time. I approached a large branch that stretched out from the trunk, and saw in my head what I could do to save myself.
I eased myself onto the branch, and saw the bloodthirsty animal, locking eyes with mine, with fueled hatred, and hunger. I waited.
He approached me, and I was ready, just as he came within reach, I kicked its head as hard as I could, causing it to almost fall. I connected with his head again, and I was successful. It lost it's balance and grip completely and fell backwards, and slammed into the ground. It was at least a 40 foot drop. The jaguar lay still.
