It was a warm autumn day. The birds were chirping and the leaves were swaying. The sun was at its peak in the sky, shining its loving rays over the two boys.
Jungkook and Taehyung were sitting at a bench outside of their school, as they worked on their project.
It was lunch time and they had both decided to start their art project.
"So far we have come up with sunsets, the night sky, and banana milk." Jungkook nodded his head to Taehyung's words as he listened intently. "One question though," Taehyung looked confusingly at Jungkook, "Why banana milk?"
Jungkook laughed softly. "It's because I love it so much that I have it everyday. One of the things Mrs. Han told us to paint, was how we feel." Jungkook held up his banana milk he was currently drinking to justify his point.
He looked at Taehyung who still looked confused.
"In other words, banana milk is symbolic for me. It shows how I still feel small sometimes and that I embrace my childish side completely. I love that side because of its wonder with the world. That side of me is curious, adventurous, and it helps me escape this sometimes cruel world. Its also deli-" Jungkook halted immediately as he realized he was rambling.
He glanced at Taehyung, expecting to be met with utter annoyance. But instead he saw Taehyung resting his head on his palm looking fondly at him.
"S-sorry I was rambling." Jungkook twirled his thumbs as a light blush dusted his cheeks. Taehyung continued to stare at Jungkook, as if he didn't realize he was doing it.
Jungkook got slightly uncomfortable as he cleared his throat to break the silence.
"U-um what about you Hyung. Any things in mind?" Jungkook could see Taehyung's eyes light up brightly from the question.
"I thought you'd never ask!" Taehyung clapped his hands excitedly, almost like a small child. "When I was younger I played the violin. I was pretty good at it too. But when I got older my responsibilities took up a lot of my time. So did school. I would have no more time for practicing that I completely stopped playing." Taehyung smiled sadly as he looked at Jungkook.
Jungkook felt pity for his friend, he had to give up something he truly cared for at such a young age.
"But," he continued, " when I got to college, I found a music room with all sorts of instruments. One of them being a violin. I didn't know if I was still any good, but I had to try one last time. So I picked up the violin and played my favorite song.
It was like nothing had changed because the second the bow touched the strings, the beautiful melody was flowing out of it. I was so grateful to that one day, that I started playing the violin everyday since then."
Jungkook looked at Taehyung in awe, the beauty of his words resembled the beauty that he was. Jungkook new all too well of this beauty, for he had since the first day of college. That day when he walked into his school hallway trying to find his first class, he had accidentally stumbled upon a beautiful sound.
He remembers looking through the slightly cracked open door, only to be met with the most ethereal sight.
A boy playing the violin as he stood in front of the large window, as the sun cast its golden rays upon him. Jungkook was enthralled by the masterpiece in front of him. Everything looked surreal to the doe eyed boy, too perfect. It was then Jungkook knew that he had fallen, and he needed to know this beautiful man before him.
"To answer your question, it's not the violin itself that makes me feel, it's what I can do with it that makes me who, I believe, I am. It's a part of me that will never fade, because the music stole my soul." As Taehyung finished his speech Jungkook could only stare.
He had known about the dark haired male's rediscovery in the music room, but he didn't know that it held so much significance in his life. Maybe now Jungkook could get even closer to his "friend" during this project.
Taehyung scanned Jungkook up and down as if saying, Well what did you think?
Jungkook enlarged his already huge eyes in understanding. "Wow Hyung, that was beautiful. You are definitely going to get an A!" Jungkook awkwardly laughed. Taehyung just stared at Jungkook with an unreadable gaze.
He cleared his throat again. "Ok, now that we know what to do for the feelings portion, what about the rest?" Jungkook asked Taehyung.
"So I was thinking that we should have one section of the portfolio contain our deepest desires. Another section be of how we feel, like your banana milk and my violin. The current reality still needs some thinking, but my idea was that we should paint each other however the other wants to paint them. Sort of like fitting into the other persons current reality. That way we kill two birds with one stone by completing the partner portion and the current reality all together."
Jungkook hummed agreeing to Taehyung's statement. "Ok, well which one should we start fir-"
The school bell rings throughout the quiet space.
"We'll talk later Kook." Taehyung stands up with his bag in hand. As he turns around to leave a quiet question stops him.
"What was the song called? The one you were playing that day."
Taehyung looks over his shoulder before whispering out, "Winter Bear."
Jungkook watches the beautiful boy until he disappears inside the school.
