"No sign of a demon here," I said, rubbing my eyes and yawning. It was now night, and we were keeping a lookout for any suspicious activity.

"Well, you're not looking hard enough, and night only fell an hour ago," Giyū said. "But I feel tired too," he said after a moment of thinking. I smiled my amusement. Suddenly I saw something strange. The flash of sharp nails and fangs, and a hint of a slitted pupil.

Giyū was following the quite beautiful young lady with those features carefully. As she slipped into an alley, looking furtively behind her, Giyū stood up. I stood up too and grinned. "Ready to kill a demon?" I asked, and Giyū snorted.

"She might not be a demon-- ACK!" he yelled, as I tugged him towards the other side of the path, through the swarm of people. "Do not ever do that again," he warned me as he brushed the dust off his shoulders.

"Quick!" I hissed, as I saw the alley that the young woman had rushed into, "I think that's her." I poked my head out of the side of the alley. Yep. It was her. She looked normal, except for her cat-like eyes, excessive beauty, and fangs, the latter sinking into a young man's neck. I covered my mouth in horror and looked up at Giyū.

He was pulling his sword out. The demon jumped at the source of the noise and turned to where we were standing. "Demon slayer uniforms!" she hissed gleefully, and let the dead body drop to the ground with a dull thud, "Much more interesting! I've been itching for a battle."

"And I think you've earned one," I grinned, sliding my sword out of its sheath, "What do you say, Giyū?"

Giyū grinned back and drew his sword. "Of course," he said.

I used Fourth Note: Song of the Mountain Air and Giyū used First Form: Water Surface Slash, directing our moves to the demon, who just chuckled softly. "You think you can beat Tsukiho? The one who nearly became a Lower Rank?"

"Aw, I'm sorry to hear your woes," as I finished using the move, except that the demon wasn't anywhere near me. "What did you say, little girl?" she asked, her green eyes glowing unnaturally. She flicked her black hair and smiled, showing her fangs. "You should probably apologize for saying that to a demon whose Blood Demon Art can kill you when I'm 10 meters away?"

Giyū pulled me back. "No," he said, "I don't want to think I'll lose you."

I blushed, then looked down. Our quiet moment was interrupted by sharp, long fingers just missing my nose, but grazing Giyū's. "Oh! This is soooo much fun!!!" the demon gushed in glee, pulling back her fingers. So that's her blood demon art, I thought, she can lengthen her limbs!

I quickly wiped the blood from Giyū's nose and glared at the demon. "Oh, my, are you two a couple? How cute!" Tsukiho squealed as she stretched her leg and kick directly to the wall next to me, missing me by inches. I swung my sword at the limb, and she screamed in pain. "No slayers have ever-- how--?"

"Giyū, slash her limbs!" I yelled, and she glared at me. As she stretched her arms out, Giyū slashed them and ran to her throat. I used Second Form: Lament of the Lonely Sea as I passed her and caught a glimpse of her face, her beautiful features marred by her furious expression. As her head dropped to the ground Giyū collapsed against me. "That was pretty scary," he whined, and I giggled.

"As a celebration for a successful first mission, how about we shop around for a haori for you," he said, nudging me.

"Sure!" I replied, smiling. As we headed into the throng of people, I thought I saw two people staring at us. One had pale green hair and sharp purple eyes and was male. He looked haughty. The other person was a young woman with her brown hair in a large, low bun and a haze of lavender for eyes. She was very beautiful. I couldn't help but wonder why they were looking at us until we got to somewhere that sold haoris.

"Oh wow," I breathed, holding up a dark blue kimono with blue sleeves, "This one is pretty!"

Giyū smiled. "I'll get that for you, then," he said, pulling out his pouch, full of coins, "How much is this one?" he asked the shop owner.

"1,000 yen," the owner said lazily and took the coins from Giyū.

"Try it on," Giyū said excitedly, and I did. "What a shame I couldn't match my haori to yours," I said cautiously, avoiding Sabito's name. Giyū laughed. Phew. He wasn't thinking of Sabito. I looked up as I heard a flapping noise, then nudged Giyū.

"A crow! Maybe a new mission?" I said and jumped up and down as the bird soared down to us. I held out my arm and the crow latched its feet onto it. Then it let out a huge caw. "Today, you two will be going on separate missions! Giyū, you are to go to Osaka! Aimi! You are to go to Nagoya!"

"Separate missions?" I looked at Giyū, who smiled warmly at me.

"I daresay we'll meet when we're both Hashira," he said, then quickly wrapped his arms around me then released me. "Bye, Aimi!" he called as he walked away. I could feel the heat rising in my face then covered it.

How can he guarantee I'll be strong enough? I wondered as I set off to Nagoya.
