Adam and I met at Evviva Breakfast and Lunch for breakfast. He and I had spoken almost every day since his apology. He seemed like a really nice guy and 100% different than what I was used to. I had decided to just wait and see what happened with the two of us.
"I'm leaving tomorrow," I picked up my cup of tea and sipped it.
"I thought you had one more week," he sat back as he frowned at me.
"Originally that was the plan, but things have changed. I need to get back to the office and the real world," I shifted in my seat.
"So, you're leaving and that's it? I'll never hear from you again?" he frowned as he looked at me.
"There's facetime and texting and calling. If you want to hear from me again, there are so many ways for it to happen. We just won't be able to see each other like this," I reached over and placed my hand on his. "But, that also means that when we do see each other we have to make it count."
Adam gave a half-smile before taking my hand into his and leaning forward to kiss my knuckles. "You are absolutely right. I'm sorry. I'm going to miss you, Tal, that's all."
He released my hand and we quietly ate.
"My aunt still lives here," I said after a moment. "I do come visit her often and you know that you can always come to New York."
He nodded. "The university does have holidays and I can come visit at that time."
"Exactly," I picked up my fork and resumed eating.
"Will I meet your friends when I get to New York?"
I thought for a moment before shrugging. "I'm not sure. I'm sort of lacking in the friend department at the moment."
"I thought you had the friend that you had text during our first date. The one who told you who my dad was."
"We're working on that friendship," I scrunched up my nose.
Adam smiled. "That means I have you all to myself? I'm OK with that."
I just shifted in my seat a little and continued eating my food.
After we finished eating, Adam and I went to his apartment. He said that he didn't work that day and had planned to spend the entire day with me. The two of us were sitting on the couch, watching something on TV when my phone chimed, alerting me to a message. I reached into my pocket and removed my phone and saw that Lexie had text me.
I heard you were returning to NY tomorrow and back to the office Monday.
"Who's Lexie?" Adam asked.
I looked up at him. "What?"
He nodded towards the phone.
"My boss," I tilted my screen away from him a little.
He looked at the phone for a moment before turning his attention back to the TV. I leaned away from him as I text back.
Yes, that was the plan. Do you not want me back?
I absolutely want you back. You are needed. I am happy to have you back.
I smiled. It was nice to read that she wanted me back and was happy to have me back.
I'll send you everything that you need Sunday so that you know what's going.
You can send it now so that I can be properly prepared for Monday.
