I went back to the office to get everything in order. Lexie said that she was going to finish her day from home and would call me if she needed anything.
When I walked into the office, Carmen was sitting at her desk working and eating. She looked up at me and smiled. "How'd it go?"
"It was fine. I'm a professional," I sat at my desk.
She rolled her eyes. "I would've gone in an outfit that let that man know what he was giving up."
"First: I was there for work and two: he would've never noticed."
"Oh, I would've made him notice," Carmen smiled. "You like that girl, huh?"
I nodded my head. "I do."
"Well, just be careful. Remember: she's Nyla's friend and that chick still has it out for you."
"I'm fine," I shook my head. "She's out there sleeping with Joel."
"He's a dick and you're better off without him."
I laughed a little as I pulled my information up on the computer.
"OH!" Carmen got up and walked over to the microwave and took something out. She came back with an Evviva take-out bag. My eyes widened as I looked at the bag. "So, some really cute guy dropped this off for you. He tried to wait around but after an hour or so, he had to go."
I just looked at the bag.
"It smells amazing," Carmen walked over and placed the bag on my desk. "Very mapley."
"Yeah," I cleared my throat. "This was a restaurant in Toronto. I usually bought a maple latte and maple waffles. Did he say his name?" I looked up at her.
She shook her head. "He said he was surprising you. Who is it?"
"I don't know, but maybe Adam."
Her smile disappeared. "Are you two still speaking? I thought we ended things with him when you left."
"I did. I haven't spoken to him since I left. I never called to tell him I was home or anything. I don't know why he's here."
"Well... he's here. Is that him?" she raised her eyes a little as she looked towards the front desk.
I turned and sure enough, Adam was standing at the front desk. He was wearing a dark blue suit and actually looked nice. The receptionist even sat up a little straighter as she spoke to him. A moment later my line rang. I exhaled as I picked up.
"Talia, there's someone here to see you," she said.
"Hi Rachel, I'm in the middle of uploading some files and getting things in order," I said. "Can you see who it is? I really wasn't expecting anyone."
"She's in the middle of working," Rachel responded. "There's a VIP client that she's working with so she's on a very tight schedule."
"She's not a designer. She's an assistant," Adam replied.
"I'm aware of her title," Rachel replied. I glanced towards the front desk and noticed that she was slouching in her seat a little. "I can have her call you back."
"I was here earlier and dropped something off for her and was told then that she'd call me back and she hasn't. Her car is outside, so I know she's here."
"Yes, and I've told you that she's working. You can't really just pop into someone's job and expect them to drop everything to see you," She smiled. "But I can take a message and have her call you back. Well, I can ask her to call you back."
