Marinette let out a sigh as she thought back to the night before. Her hand was resting on her forehead and she was staring at the ceiling, slowly waking up.
She was glad that she had a day of school that day. Thank god that the teachers decided it would be a good idea to have a meeting. She really needed time to think.
After the akuma attack, Chloe had come home and called off the party. She was furious and didn't even look at Adrien.
So Adrien brought her home and hugged her before driving off. Even though the party was definitely not what she expected it to be, she still had a great time with Adrien.
But the problem was that Chat Noir's absence was nagging her. On the ride home, she couldn't enjoy Adrien's company like she usually would. She hated to admit it to herself, but there was no use denying it. She cared about Chat. Like, really cared about him.
That's why she couldn't stop herself from moving towards the Eiffel Tower after her parents had kissed her good night. They had stayed awake because they couldn't help but worry about their daughter and luckily for them the party was shorter than it should have been, so they were able to go to bed fairly early.
She was disappointed when she didn't see Chat Noir at their usual spot. Maybe, he had thought that there wouldn't be a question that day because she was at a party, but she hoped that he would come anyway.
Or maybe, he was drunk and stumbling through the streets right now. Or he was sick...
She really hoped that he had a good explanation for why he wasn't at the battle and that he was okay.
The wind was cold and Ladybug was thankful for her magical suit. She looked on her bugphone to check the time. It was 15 minutes after their usual meet-up time for patrol and she told herself to wait a quarter of an hour longer. She really wanted to see Chat.
She was just about to leave when suddenly she saw a silhouette in the distance that looked a lot like her partner. Ladybug let out a sigh of relief and sat down again, waiting for Chat to arrive.
He sat down next to her with a grin, but it didn't meet his eyes. She guessed it was because of the upset look she was giving him, but he kinda deserved and she couldn't stop herself anyway.
"Where were you?" She said without thinking.
Chat swallowed thickly, his Adam's apple bobbing in his throat. "Is that your question of today?"
"Are you serious?!" Ladybug sneered. "I think that someone owes me this answer because my partner wasn't there."
"You seemed to handle it just fine with your other superhero buddy."
"It was a lot harder than usual. We barely made it through. I needed you and you weren't there! And now you have the audacity to joke about it?!" Ladybug yelled out, tears forming in her eyes.
Sure, he had been absent at some battles, but at least Plagg helped her out then. And other times, she had known beforehand that he wouldn't be there. But at this battle, she had been helplessly waiting for him to help her and he hadn't shown. It hurt.
"I'm sorry, M'lady, I didn't mean to agitate you. Of course, you deserve an answer." He spoke. "I was captured, turned into jewelry."
Ladybug couldn't help but feel guilty. It wasn't his fault. She had been selfish. "I'm sorry, Chat, I didn't know. I was just stressed and I didn't even think about the possibility of you being seized."
