If anyone were to ask, Doll would say that she had settled into Cassell College quite nicely.
Of course, if we were to look at it objectively, the truth would be much different.
Cassell College was a large, extensive, and detailed puzzle. Every piece, person, and thing involved helped to create the complete whole of what we know now. Doll was a puzzle piece that was found inside the box, that didn't seem to fit anywhere, or even be a part of the same intricate picture. Yet, no one wanted to throw it out in case something happened, and it suddenly gained any importance, which no one really seemed to believe, even herself.
But she, of course, would never say that.
At the very least, during the past two months, she had grown into a routine and her lifestyle was set in stone. Days passed and bundled into one another, seamlessly merging into a big typical habit. Sometimes, MC had a very difficult time keeping track of the passage of time as days seemed to repeat each other.
Only the weekends differed from the weekdays.
She would wake up in the mornings, sprawled out on her bed, watching the sun blossoming through peeks of the window.
Moving felt terrible in those mornings, almost like a sin. Each new breath felt stolen, undeserved, heavy. She would stay like that, staring, unmoving for what felt like hours. But also, seconds. Time had a strange way of flowing during those times.
She would only get up after Liliya annoyed her into doing so, reminding her to take EVA's daily test, if she didn't what to get in trouble.
She would get into the shower, stare at the falling water. She rubbed her skin until it stung. Only then she would remember to stop. She would wash her face for centuries until it felt like rubber to the touch. Wash her teeth, taking the quiz in the meantime, sloppily choosing the answers.
When Liliya forced her to, she would make breakfast. Some days oatmeal, others an apple, most a black coffee. She didn't like the taste. It didn't matter much.
If the sun was still not completely up, she would study. The homework was not too excessive, but it was still a very heavy load. She regretted minoring in Alchemical Design, she had too much fun while doing it. But also, not fun at all. It was all confusing.
It was still hard work, and Doll refused to be late on anything, her schedule didn't allow it. So, she would do the work for things due several days in advance. She would go back and revisit what she had already learned, rewriting notes until her fingers hurt.
Whenever she received a good grade or was reminded that she was on top of her class, breathing became much easier. That high was the only thing that made tolerable the lows.
When the blinding light couldn't be hidden behind the shades, she knew it was time to leave.
She patted her body down making sure she was carrying everything; her protective gear, hourglass, throwing knives, book bag, keys. Only when she was completely sure, she left.
