{This is set in an AU where Voldy is dead or whatever. Harry and gang are in their 4th year. Discrimination against muggle borns is still a thing but less so. Harry and Draco are lowkey enemies still because the classic first year "I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself." Oh also, Lupin is still DADA teacher just cuz}

Harry POV

Outside, Hogwarts had just came into view. I grinned at the sight of it. Now that I'm a 4th year, I get more freedom at school, which includes going to Hogsmead and all that other cool stuff. Not to mention Quidditch.

Snapping me out of my sentimental daydream, Hermione said, "Come on Harry! You aren't even in your uniform yet!"

I cursed under my breath and got changed as quickly as I could while Hermione turned the other way. Somehow Ron had managed to be ready before me. I could already tell from that this year was going to be a strange one.

As we got off the train, a group of first years came out of nowhere, causing me to stumble to my side to avoid knocking them over. I hissed at the impact.

I'd crashed into somebody else instead.

Before I could apologise, a sharp voice I knew all to well snapped, "Watch were you're going Potter."

"Good summer, Malfoy?" I asked sarcastically.

Stopping me from getting hexed or something, Hermione dragged me down the aisle.

The walk up to Hogwarts was... cold. Ron and Hermione were arguing about something, but my mind was elsewhere. I couldn't help but notice Malfoy had gotten taller since last year.

Merlin, why was I thinking about Malfoy's appearance so much? Perhaps there's a slight pang or jealousy there. Even though I'm 14 now, I'm not much taller than I was in first year.

Another thing that changed about Malfoy was his hair. While he usually wore it slicked back with gel, this year he'd actually let it breathe. It looked fluffy.

"Welcome back everyone!" Hagrid greeted as he boards of students flooded into the Great Hall.

The sight of the night sky never failed to amaze me. I took a seat at the Gryffindoor table by Ron, Hermione and opposite some other Griffindoors in our year.

Just as I was getting sick of Seamus going on about his adventures with the magical wildlife in Ireland, Dumbledore stood up as McGonagall clanged her spoon against her glass for attention.

The entire school stood up, looking forward.

"Welcome back to Hogwarts everybody," Dumbledore started, a twinkle in his eye. "And now we welcome those joining us for the first time today!"

The doors swung open and a group of forty or so scared 11 year olds scurried into the hall.

The sorting was... long. Eventually, the last kid took his seat at the Ravenclaw table.

"Come on, I'm hungry," Ron complained warning a glare from Hermione.

Squashing Ron and my dreams of eating dinner, Dumbledore stood up once again and announced, "Now, this year is a very special year. The Triwizard Tournament is an ancient tradition that brings unity to the magical schools across Europe. Due to certain incidents, it hasn't taken place in 400 ish years but now we have the privilege of hosting it here at Hogwarts!"

The hall erupted into cheers. I could distinctly hear Fred and George as the loudest among them.

McGonagall clanged her glass annoyed.

"Thank you Minerva," Dumbledore said. "As I was saying, this event will involve three dangerous challenges for six brave wizards to take part in. Two from Beauxbatons, two form Durmstrang and two from Hogwarts." He paused to allow for some cheers. "The champions will be decided by The Goblet of Fire which will pull out the names of those most worthy for the tasks. Due to the nature of the challenges, only 4th years and above will be allowed to have a chance at competing as one of Hogwarts's champions."
