*** Meagan's POV ***

I am having a hard time recognizing my best friend. She left Texas incredibly against commitment and settling down. She feared morphing into her siblings, even though I knew she would never become them. She's too damn smart and cultured to become so small minded.

Now, she's all emotional and wrapped up in Rafael and his family. I'm so damn happy for her. She needed a relationship like this.

Not like what she had with that lying weasel, Miguel. She filled me in on that bullshit he tried to pull on her. I can't believe she's still talking to him, let alone entertaining staying friends with him. I hope I don't see him while I'm here. I might just go crazy on his ass for being a manipulative shit.

I hear the front door open and close. "That was too quick for another backseat hook-up." I snicker.

She doesn't respond so I come out of the spare room to make sure it is Evelyn and not some random intruder. It is Evelyn, and I can tell she has been crying again. I rush over. "Oh sweetie, again? Or do I have to drown Rafael in one of those rivers for something?"

"I almost said the words, Meagan." She admits with a look of shock on her beautiful face.

"That's amazing! Look at you!" I exclaim, squeezing her shoulders excitedly.

"It's too soon. I mean, I only recently started referring to him as my boyfriend. And what happens if I don't stay here? I may hate it here after one winter! All the Baumanns keep teasing me about it, asking if I own a parka and mittens. I shouldn't let myself..." She is melting down.

"Whoa, Easy Evie! Calm down. Remember that love is not something that you get to control. You can try, but you'll just end up stressing yourself out. Like now." I call her by my nickname for her and gesture to her current state.

"You're right. I'm just...fuck I've really fallen hard." She curses.

"It's all that good dicking you get." I wiggle my eyebrows at her.

She gasps. "I'm not giving you any more details of my sex life. Get your own if you want to be crass!"

"I'm trying...now tell me which Baumann brothers are available for the job. Oh, and let's pull out the picture for visuals." I clap my hands and whip my phone out. This family has some damn good genes!

"Hey Meg, you know I love you, right?" Evelyn quizzes.

I'm not sure that I like where this is going by her tone, but I roll with it. "Of course, I love you too."

"I really care about these guys so..." She starts.

"Wow! Are you really judging me right now? How is this any different than how you and Rafael met?" I instantly become defensive.

"It's not really. Just please don't play them against each other." She cringes as she says it.

"Like I do that!" I scoff.

"The Bosma twins. Sonny and David. Tyler and Sven. Shall I continue?" She cocks an eyebrow at me. I hate when she is right.

"Fine. Fine. I won't do anything to instigate, but if they can't help it..." I trail off, knowing how these things sometimes play out between brothers.

"They won't. They aren't super competitive." Evelyn denies.

"Hmm. Maybe they just haven't had anything or anyone worth competing over." I joke.
