*** Rafael's POV ***
What in the hell just happened? One minute I see Kevin getting chummy with Evelyn and then she's walking out on me like I'm the bad guy here. I watch her ample ass walk out without even stopping to tell her best friend that she's leaving.
"You done fucked up, son." Miguel claps a hand on my shoulder. I shake him off violently and turn to get in his face. He throws his hands up. "Whoa. I come in peace."
"I doubt that." I hiss.
"Look I overheard most of their conversation. Do you want to know what they talked about?" He offers, calling the bartender over.
I hesitate. I do, but not like this. I give Miguel a sympathetic look. "You really are a creep. You never deserved her."
Miguel laughs. "Well looks like you may be joining me on the island of misfit toys soon."
I storm away. Rick waves to me. I tip my head and rejoin Christian and Meagan. Meagan finally tears her gaze away from Christian long enough to ask. "Where's Evelyn?"
"She left." I snap.
"Without me?" She asks incredulously.
I turn to retort and catch Christian's eye. He must sense that I am about to lose it. He interjects. "Evelyn knew we would hit it off and asked me to bring you back later. If that's not okay, Rafael can take you now."
Meagan turns her bright eyes to me. "She's okay?"
"Yeah, just a miscommunication on my part." I mumble.
"She's not mad at me, right?" Meagan asks with the brand of melancholy that afflicts all when they drink too much.
"Why would she be mad at you?" Christian interjects. "Come on. Let's go challenge Liam and Joel to air hockey."
Meagan nods and ambles away, her curls bouncing wildly. Christian nudges me. "Everything good?"
"I don't know, man. Do you think Kevin has the hots for Evelyn?" I ask him.
He lets out a sigh, looking at the ceiling and then back to me. "Yeah, I do. But he'd never act on it. He'll meet someone and it'll be water under the bridge."
"Yeah, but do you think Evelyn is tempting him by being so friendly?" I press.
"Oh man, you need to come off it. They're adults. They both care about you. And Evelyn looks at no one else the way she looks at you." Christian assures my struggling ego. My heart squeezes with his words.
Meagan's flirty giggle flits through the air. I nudge Christian back. "You better go. Bro code or not, Joel and Liam will talk her into something torrid."
"Fuck, you're right. Go sort out your business. I'll get Meagan back later." Christian assures me.
"Do make sure she gets back. I don't need Evelyn more pissed than she is at me." I mutter.
"Don't lose her, Rafael. That'll make things between me and Meagan awkward." Christian teases.
I groan. As I reach the door, I hear someone call my name. It's Rick. Shit, I think Evelyn and I both forgot about him.
"Did Evelyn leave already?" He queries.
"Uh yeah. She wasn't feeling great." Technically not a lie.
"Oh, okay. You leaving too then?" He rocks on his heels.
"Yeah. Sorry we aren't much company." I offer a weak apology.
