*** Meagan's POV ***

Well that sucked. My best friend, the one who has been through thick and thin with me, just took the wind right outta my fucking sails. Christian reaches out and squeezes my fidgeting fingers. "Rafael will bring her around."

That makes my brow furrow more as I concentrate on squeezing the color out of my fingertips. I glance at his handsome face. "Are we making a mistake?"

He grimaces. "No. I don't think so. Do you?"

He's granting me a chance to back out. But I don't want that. Yes, it's fast. Yes, it's not what anyone expected of me given my track record. But it feels right with Christian. I know it's right.

"No, but I can't do this without my best friend." I shakily admit.

Christian wraps his arm around my back and pulls me closer, his lips grazing my temple. "You won't have to. Raf will convince her."

"I shouldn't have accused her of being jealous. I was just mad that she wasn't excited for me. For us." I explain.

"I know, babe. Maybe we should have started with our other news." Christian muses.

"Maybe." I feel doubtful. "It shouldn't matter."

We sit and sip our beverages. I keep glancing over my shoulder, anxious for their return. Christian glances at his phone nervously. We send the waiter away twice before I explode. "I can't sit here! I'm going to talk some sense into her."

Christian can't even protest before I am storming away. I first head in the direction of the bathrooms. When I don't find them there, I scan the bar. Still empty-handed, I check with the valets to see if they left. Finally, I ask the hostess.

"She's this stunning woman in a knockout blue dress. Although, she is wearing totally the wrong shoes. Oh, and a guy would have been hot on her heels. He has an award-winning smile." I describe them to a tee.

"Check the patio." The hostess suggests.

"The patio? Isn't it cold for the patio?" I question. This Texas girl is going to need a thicker skin if I am going to survive in a cooler climate. I can't imagine that Evelyn has acclimated just yet. I mean it is in the high forties out there!

The hostess laughs. "We have heaters and blankets. I think the guy with the dazzling smile asked us for a blanket."

"Lemme have one too." I demand.

I throw the faux-fur lined blanket around me and head into the tundra. Immediately, my teeth start chattering, but success! I see them sitting directly next to a heater, Raf sitting on a low table in front of Evelyn who is wrapped up.

"Evelyn." I call to her. She hangs her head upon hearing my voice. Rafael nudges her chin up and says something. She gives a nod and he reaches out to caress her face. God, they look every bit of the romantic lovers that they are.

She finally turns her eyes to me. I accept it as my cue to come closer. I shuffle over and Rafael stands. He leans in and kisses my cheek, whispering. "I already knew you were going to be like a sister to me."

I mouth the words, "thank you," and sit down where he was perched on the table. The space is still warm. Usually that sensation would gross me out, but right now, not so much. He leaves us to hash out our issues.
