Valentine and I have been together for five years now and I still remember the day we meet. We were young I only thirteen her twelve but I remember thinking she was the prettiest girl I had ever laid eyes on. I courted her for five years before we were married at a young age. At the young age of twenty, she had already given birth to three beautiful children, two boys, and a girl. We aren't a rich family but neither are we poor. I make good enough for us to get by on or at least I thought I did.
It was what we called Indian summer most nights during that time was hotter than most and we would sleep nude most the time without covers to keep cool. It was natural and people did it often where we came from. My parents had raised me to do so and I followed in their footsteps. We are a simple family living a simple farm life. I worked days coming home late to tend to the farm then up at the crake of dawn to start again. Valentine stayed home with the children, looking after the farm doing what little she could do to help out. She schooled the children at home teaching them the ways of leaving on a farm and work around the house. She even teaches them a little reading and writing. She told me once that your never too young to learn when I asked why she insisted on teaching our two-year-old anything.
This night was no different than any other I come home Valentine is at the sink washing dishes from dinner. My arms wrap around her small frame kissing her neck. "Hey, baby" I whisper.
"Mmm, Strix" she leans against me "There's a plate on the table for you"
"I think I'll just have you for dinner tonight" I nibble on her ear
She brushes me off with her shoulders "Eat first" she turns in my arms "Then you can get right back to nibbling on that ear"
Leaning down I kiss her soft lips "Yes ma'am" I see her bite her lip as I take my seat "How are the children" I ask taking a bite of fried pork
She smiles the mere mention of the children always brought a smile to my Valentine's face "Samuel wants to be like his daddy"
"Does he now" I smile
"Yes, he told me so today, said he wanted to work as hard as his dad did"
I laugh at that "Maybe he'll change his mind when he gets older" I tell her
"I don't know he sounds sincere about it. Now Thomas, on the other hand, I don't know what we're going to do with him" she takes the seat on the other side of the table
"Oh, what's he done now," I ask knowing my ten-year-old well, the latest was he set fire to the hey out in the barn.
"I had to punish him twice today for pulling Roselynn's hair"
"That's not too bad"
"He's ten years old she two he shouldn't be pulling on her hair. Then he thought it would be funny to stick chicken feathers in her hair"
I laugh again, Valentine looks at me "I'm sorry baby, but that is funny"
"It wasn't funny to Roselynn, nor me we had a hard time getting them things out" she shifts in her seat "And I still think she went to bed with some in her hair"
"I'll give him another talk," I tell her
"Are you done with your plate?" she asks
"Yes" she stands grabbing my plate I grab her arm "Leave it tonight baby," I tell her "Come to bed with me"
"But the dishes"
"Can wait" I turn her wrist over bring it to my lips I kiss it "Just for tonight"
She smiles as I stand "The children"
"Are they not asleep"
"Yes but what if they wake up"
