chapter two

The other interns and I were scattered across the research library. We had spent almost the whole day in here just like Dr Yang had requested. We took a break and headed down to the cafeteria.

"Ugh Yang is getting on my nerves!" Sadie complained as she and I collected lunch trays and lined up

I shrugged my shoulders "It's what we get for messing up"

"Yeah but it shouldn't last this long! It's unbelievable!" We had moved closer in the line behind a man and a woman dressed in dark blue scrubs

"mhmm" Was all I managed to say as I didn't want the two attendings in front to think I was complaining about a punishment I got myself in too

"How are you not more furious" Sadie complain again "If Dr Yang were here I'd" Sadie started but was cut off as two attendings turned around and I felt my stomach drop to the ground

"You'll do what Sadie?" Dr Torres asked as she eyed Sadie

"N-nothing" She stuttered and looked down

I looked away too scared to engage in their conversation. The line moved forward an inch and another voice began to speak.

"Dr Grey you're scrubbing in on my surgery"

I turned my head "Uh, um, what?" I stuttered and noticed that Mark had made that statement. I thought he hated me. Wait no, this must be a set up.

I opened my mouth to reply but I couldn't

"She can't assist on your surgery Dr Sloan. She is in trouble" Sadie had mentioned before I had time to tell Mark myself.

I looked at her annoyed and she rolled her eyes. I felt Marks eyes on me "Fine, then you'll watch Dr Grey"

I faced back to him and looked stunned "Can I watch Dr Sloan?" Sadie asked

Mark kept his stare at me "No, I don't let shit talkers near my surgeries" He spoke

My face was still stunned "So, I'll see you in the gallery Grey?" he asked

I couldn't talk or speak or even move. It was like I was stuck in cement. All I was able to do was slowly move my head up and down.

"Perfect" Mark replied and he and Callie walked off after grabbing their lunch. I stared at him until he sat down at a table. I was confused, I didn't know what to think of the situation. I was convinced that this was a plan to get me into bed with him again and I was not going to fall for it.

"What was that about?" Sadie asked as we headed over to a table

"I don't know, I didn't even think he knew my name" I lied and took a seat

"Of course he knows your name, you're deaths little sister" She replied picking at her food "I'm just surprised he didn't ask me. I mean I am closer to death than you and I am really hot"

I looked at her sourly, I didn't think this was so competitive. Even though Sadie spoke so highly of herself maybe she was right? She has known Meredith longer than I have and I am no where near as pretty as her.

I sunk back into my chair "You should come" I spoke crossing my arms "If you think that he should have asked you instead of me"

"You know what I will. Thanks Lexie" Sadie got up and left

It was now later in the day I was sitting up in the gallery waiting for Mark to begin his surgery.

"Has he started yet?" Sadie asked as she hurried into the room

I turned around "No, he's just about to cut though"

Sadie took a seat next to me and Mark began his surgery. Throughout the whole surgery I switched between looking at Mark and the patient. Sometimes I would see Sadie in the corner of my eye, she was practically drooling over Mark. Unfortunately, realising that she was crushing on Mark made me jealous. But it shouldn't because he clearly doesn't have feelings for me. Once minute he is an ass and the next he offers me a surgery.

Once Mark was done Sadie and I went down to see him. Well I was just going to leave but Sadie insisted that we well she make the effort to tell him how amazing he was.

We were standing in the halls and Sadie spotted Mark exiting the scrub room.

"Mark you were so good" She spoke as he came over

"Dr Sloan" he corrected her "and how did you watch? I told you that you couldn't"

I stood back against the wall not wanting to join in the conversation

"I uh, Lexie invited me" Sadie replied clearly scared "but you were amazing"

"I know I am amazing. Now, don't you have studying to do?" he asked

Sadie nodded and left the hallway with her head down clearly upset by her failure. I was just about to leave when Mark grabbed my arm and turned me to face him.

"What?" I asked annoyed and moved my eyes around so he couldn't find them

"Hi" he spoke trying to make eye contact but I kept looking around

"You don't get to do this" I replied finally looking at him

"Do what?" he asked confused

I shook my head "Sleep with me, ignore me, treat me like garbage, and expect me to accept it"

"shhhh Lexie" he spoke as I mentioned that he slept with me

I rolled my eyes again "I'm not doing this"

I began to walk down the hallway I was almost at the end and began to turn the corner but before I could Mark called out.

"I like you"
