chapter five

Once we arrived at the hospital Meredith and I walked into the hospital together and parted ways as she went to the residents change room and I walked down to the interns change room.

I changed into my light blue scrubs and proceeded to walk to the reception desk that was on the surgical floor. All the other interns joined and we created a gathering as residents walked over to us.

I immediately noticed Cristina, myself and three other interns walked over. Her face still looked agitated and annoyed with what happened last night.

"Today we are unfortunately on Dr Sloans service which means we will be doing plastics" she proceeded to say

I kept my facial expressions still even though my heart skipped a beat when she said we would be joining Mark.

"You won't say anything or do anything just shut up and watch" she continued looking at her clipboard

We all nodded in unison

"Follow me" she spoke as she quickly turned and walked down a hallway

I knew that Cristina would be in an even more shitty mood today. Not because of her lack of sleep but because she was on plastics which she is not the least bit interested in and unfortunately us interns have to suffer.

Once we reached the room I saw Mark standing as the edge of the patients bed, he was reading the chat and having a conversation with them. Quietly, Cristina pushed us to stand against the wall. She then joined Mark from a distance.

I stared at Mark watching him read and talk patiently waiting for him to notice that I was on his service. He lifted his head to scan the interns for a quick second and when he laid his eyes on me my heart fluttered. His facial expression didn't change though but when he looked down at his chart again he gave a small smile and I knew that the smile was meant for me.

"Nice of you to join me Yang" Mark spoke and Cristina didn't answer she just stood their bored "We will be doing a facial reconstruction on the burns on Mrs Danielles face today"

"Mhmm" she replied with a yawn

Mark immediately took notice "Sorry to bore you there Yang you're more than welcome to go grab me a coffee if you find that more interesting"

Cristina became more interested "No, I love facial reconstructions Dr Sloan" she lied

Us interns giggled and she turned to give us a glare

"It wasn't a question Yang, go get me a coffee" He spoke

"Are you serious? Get one of the interns to go" she spoke

"Yeah I'm serious and you can grab the interns one too and yourself as well, you look a bit tired"

Cristina walked out pissed and she never came back. Once Mark was done with the patient he sent us out of the room.

"I don't know where Yang is" he spoke as we gathered in a group "But you" he began pointing fingers at us interns "you go study, you go get me my coffee, you go find Yang and you" he pointed at me "go find Mrs Danielles labs and bring them to me"

I looked into Marks eyes and nodded then began walking down to the laboratory.

"What can I get for you?" I was asked as I stood at the counter

"Dr Sloans patient Danielle, I need her labs please"

I was handed her labs and began walking around the hospital to find Mark. I entered the stairwell and kept my head down as I started walking up the stairs. As I reached the fifth step I bumped into someone.

"I-I I'm so sorry" I spoke as I turned around

I was placed on the higher step whilst they were two steps below me. Once I turned around I realised that it was Mark.

"H-hi" I spoke and he laughed

"You're such a klutz Grey" he spoke with a giggle

"Shut up and take your labs" I replied handing the labs to him

He began reading them "These labs are perfect" he muttered quietly and I smiled

"Anything else I have to do for you?" I asked as he looked up from the labs

"You can kiss me" he replied putting the labs away

I scoffed "No, not here" I placed my hand on the railing and he did the same

"Come on Lex, my heart can't take this" he replied slowly caressing my hand

I looked at his hand then moved my eyes to him "No"

"Please just one, no ones here" he begged wrapping his hand around my arm and slowly leaning me into him

"No" I replied and steadied myself

"Do you know how hard it is for me to see you and not be able to hold you and kiss you?" He asked

"I can make it easier for you" I spoke and slowly took a step away from him but he pulled on my arm "I'll ask to join Derek on neuro"

"Don't you do that" he replied pulling me down a step

"I have too if you cannot control yourself Mark" I replied looking into his eyes "it's for the best"

His grip tightened and I felt both his arms snake around my waist. "Mark we can't" I spoke and Mark pushed his forehead to mine.

"Shut up Lex and let me hold you before we are interrupted" he whispered against my forehead

I closed my eyes and took a breath, he smelt of mint. He continued to hold me and I didn't say a word.

"Thank you" he whispered and placed a kiss on my forehead

I smiled as we pulled apart and heard the door open.

"What are you doing here Lexie?" Meredith asked

"I-Uh" I stuttered

"I got her to get my labs for a patient" Mark replied "Try and be a bit faster next time" Mark added then walked out the door

"God he's rude sometimes, he made Cristina get him coffee" Meredith commented as she walked up the stairs with me

"Really? With her talent" I replied playing dumb

"It was ridiculous now she's trying to get back on Altman's service" Meredith replied opening the door for us

We both walked through. "I'll see you in the lobby at the end of the day?" She asked waking off

"Yeah" I nodded as I got paged from Cristina and walked off to find her.
