.....Out of all people, it had to happen with me. Like the cliches of cliche, the elevator stopped. As I turned to Chase, the lights went off too.
"What the fuck?" I heard him curse.
"I'm going to die. I'm going to die." I chant over and over again.
"Shut up." He huffed, I felt the frown on his face. How can I shut up? What if the lift never opened? What if we stay stuck in this forever? No one will know. Only the boss is allowed to use this elevator and well, me. But that's not the point. No one will try to use this elevator. I'll die. With Chase. He'll haunt me in afterlife too.
Atleast he's hot.
Not the time bitch. I scold my subconscious.
And like it was a set-up, lights come back on and the elevator starts with a slight jerk. Thank fuck. I sighed in relief. That relief was short lived, as soon as the elevator opened I caught the sight of his mother, so I did the sensible thing and pressed the button again.
"What are you doing?" He asked when the doors closed.
"Your mother is here." I whispered, throwing my hands in the air.
"Fucking hell." He murmured.
"Yeah." I whispered again.
"Why are you whispering?" He asked, confusion lacing his voice.
Why am I whispering?
"I don't know." I answer normally this time, pressing the button to the ground floor again. This time when the doors opened, it was all clear.
"Let's go." I tell him before grabbing his arm unconsciously. It's a bad habit, really bad habit. I've held Luke's arm all my life, and now I hold on to every person walking with me unknowingly. Yesterday it was Rome. He didn't mind, but Chase will.
I quickly pull my hand back, not turning around to see his reaction. He'll be hundred percent scowling. I surely caught Layla's judging eyes but I brushed it off.

"Where are we going?" He asks, walking beside me. We argued for five minutes straight about whose car we'll be taking, in the end, I decided that we'll walk. I made him remove his coat and the tie, keeping them in his car. No need to look professional out there.
"Guess."
"Fuck off."
I ignore his last comment and enter the juice bar. He's close behind me, I can smell him. Ordering an orange & grapefruit juice, I hand it to him. Before I could give my card to the girl behind the counter, he puts $10 on the counter, stepping aside.
"What was that for?" I ask him, which he ignores.
"What?" He asks looking at the juice. I step aside as the other customers are waiting too.
"It's for you." I tell him.
"I don't want it."
"But it is for you. C'mon, drink it. I need you to have energy for me." I say, the girl sipping a smoothie choked on it, while the other girl patted her back and I realised how wrong I sounded. "I mean, for coming with me." I clarify. She starts coughing badly now. What is wrong with her?
"Are you okay?" I ask her when she's calmed down.
"Uhh yeah, totally fine. Hope he has enough energy." She says with a wink.
