"It's funny how you can go from being on top of the world to being on the ground in a split second."

(JJ's POV)
I had had enough of this.
Enough of what, you may ask? Enough of my friend group's bullshit. I didn't want to be around them anymore, I wasn't comfortable enough to be.
So what was I doing? Avoiding John B like the plague. I hadn't talked to him all day, and I wasn't planning on it. Lunch was probably the hardest. I had to hide in the bathroom so he would leave me alone. Not to mention the way he was blowing up my phone with texts, asking why I wasn't by him.
A part of me felt bad, but an even bigger part of me didn't. I'm so so so sorry to say but recently, they had been making my life a living hell. It was so awkward being around them, and I couldn't take it anymore. I had to get away.
We were about to go to third period though, and that was probably going to be one of the hardest classes right now. I sat right next to Kie, and even though we weren't on the worst terms, we definitely were not on the ones we used to be. It kinda sucked. It felt so weird being like strangers with her. I hated it.
I walked to the class, trying to hide my face behind my books, just in case John B ran up on me or something and tried to interrogate me. I'm sorry, but I couldn't have that right now. I knew I would have to explain eventually, but it wasn't that time yet.
I walked into algebra, pleasantly surprised to see that John B was already in there, and that he wasn't looking at me. Instead, he was looking at his phone, a frown on his face.
I walked to the middle of the classroom where my seat was, and sat next to Kiara. She was writing something in her notebook, the pencil moving so fast that I couldn't make out what it was. I just assumed that she didn't do the homework or something like that.
A couple months ago, if someone didn't do their homework, they would just text in the group chat and Pope would probably give it to them easily, unless he tried to make us pay for it. Then we would have to threaten him, and he sent them after a long argument.
Obviously, she couldn't do that now. So I just watched her struggle to think of an answer. Math wasn't her strong suit, not even in the slightest. I took pride in saying that I was better than her in math (I probably wasn't, I always just said it because she never wanted to actually try and prove it wrong), but now I just felt bad.
"Kie, the answer for that is 18." I whispered to her and she looked over at me. "Oh..." She erased her wrong answer, writing 18 instead. "Yeah. You're right, it is. Thanks." She mumbled, continuing to work on it.
I was going to say you're welcome, but the words got caught in my throat. I just stared at her, until she looked up at me with confusion. "Do you need something?"
I pointed at myself and she nodded. "Yeah, you keep looking at me."
I blushed and looked away. "Sorry, I didn't realize."
She cleared her throat and nodded, looking down. "Oh, alright. Sorry...didn't mean to..."
"Yeah...don't worry, you're good."
We sat in silence, and luckily the teacher came in to save me. But he dropped his McDonald's drink and slipped on the liquid, falling down hard.
