Chapter Fourteen - Love has Limits

"Darling, there's so much out there but trust us, we've spoken with the leaders of those places and their doing their jobs to keep those there as long as you keep our villains here" spoke my father. "Of course, keeping Auradon safe is my job in the next two months. I will make sure everything in Auradon stays in Auradon" "We knew you would" spoke my father kissing my forehead. I smiled. "and like we said our job is to keep you safe" smiled my mother. I smiled and looked to my family.

"But is there anything else I need to know about why lies beyond Auradon because, a visit from another land sounds like I should be" I asked. "Not at this moment in time. We only got a visit because like Auradon they have a new leader taking over. Instead of queen, she's a mayor. She like you is following her family's footsteps. If anything were to happen, I believe you and her would make an amazing team. However, the only thing you have to worry about right now is who your escort for coronation will be" teased my mom. "Mom" I yelled rolling my eyes. Everyone just laughed.

Later that night

I sat on the bed in the guest bedroom sipping my tea. Desyiree, Charles and Duke were sitting around the room talking. I was listening to their conversations but just kind of out of it.

"So Desy, tells us all about Asher asking you to be his girlfriend and to coronation" squealed Duke. I perked up "yes, please spill the details" I spoke scooting closer. "Oh look who's finally participating in the conversation" she teased. "Sorry, I've just been thinking about a lot" "is it about a certain boy" teased Charles. I threw a pillow at him. "As far as my family is concerned, there's no boy" I spoke through gritted teeth.

"yeah what are you going to do about that?" asked Duke. "My grandfather said he didn't want to see that boy in the castle as long as I was a princess" I smirked. "So anywhere but the castle for the next two months he is yours" spoke Charles. "Yes, but that stays secret because who knows what they might say if they find out before, but anyways. Desy please tells us everything" I smiled taking her hands.

She smiled and nodded. She began gushing to us about everything he did. There were streamers, balloons and loads of white roses. She was beaming. "Oh I think Desyiree Leigh is in love" I sang. She hit me with the pillow. I gasped and we all laughed. "Well we are all really happy for you Desy" I spoke. "Thank you, and soon the four of us each will get to continue our own love stories" "like our parents" added in Charles "and our grandparents" spoke Duke. I nodded.

"So boys who do you have your minds set on? After all I got Asher, little miss princess has her knight in shining armor, what about you?" smirked Desyiree leaning in closer to them. "I know who Charles likes" I teased. "How do you know?" "I see you waiting for her after every class just to walk her to the next, you have to ask Maddie out" "Wait you like Maddie" squealed Desyiree. "I do, but there's no way she could like me. I'm just a sob story" he spoke. I put my hand on his "no you're not and she's constantly asking about you at cheer practice. Let's plan to get you together next" I smiled. "Thanks Savannah" "anytime" I smiled.

I looked to Duke. "And what about you?" I spoke softly. "It's complicated princess" he spoke not making eye contact. "What do you mean?" I asked confused. "Some of us love someone that's in love with someone else" he spoke getting up and storming out. I flinched when the door was slammed shut.

I looked at Charles and Desyiree. "What was that about?" "Sav, have you ever noticed how protective Duke is?" "yeah, he's a really good fighter and is one of the strongest which is shocking because he's not even on the tourney team" I spoke. "Sav, it's just about you. The moment you get hurt he's the first to figure out if you're okay or not" spoke Charles.

"Oh so him learning I have found someone else" I sighed. "Broke him" spoke Charles. "I got to go talk to him" I said getting up. "Good luck" she spoke.

I opened up the door and ran down the steps. "Duke, wait" I yelled. He looked back and then ran out the front door. I saw everyone look in our direction. I ran out after him. He sat on the garden bench hunched over.

"Duke?" I spoke softly. "What Savannah?" he said angrily. I saw the tears streaming down his face. "How long?" "how long what? How long that I've been in love with you? How long have I hoped that you felt the same?" he spoke with his voice cracking. "You don't think I've hoped that one day you would pick me. But no, I should have known, there's no way the Princess of Auradon could have felt the same" he spoke getting up and towering over me. I stepped back a bit. "I'm sorry, I never want to scare you" he spoke stepping closer to me and grabbing my hands.

I smiled. "I need to know Savannah, do you really love him? Because if you do, I'll step back" "Duke, when I kissed him after getting spelled one time after practice. A golden glow went out, Garrison is" "your true love, I knew you loved him but I didn't realize it was that serious Savannah" I nodded with tears in my eyes. "But I can't lose you Duke, you're one of my best friends" I spoke. "I can't lose you either Savannah Rose, you are my best friend and first love" I smiled "but someone else is your true love and I can't break that" "No, but I can help you find yours" "thank you, you're the best" he smiled putting his hand on my cheek. Later

We were all back inside and I saw my parents getting ready to leave, but something felt off. I got up "mom, dad" I called out. "yes sweetheart" "can you-" I collapsed in the middle of my sentence. I felt the cold tile of my Aunt's house and that was it.
