The scent that hung in the air was gnarly to say the least. There were dark green vines plastered all around the room. Along the walls, up the ceiling and over the floor. The vines seemed to be protruding from Neil's body and was propped up onto the wall, just hanging there for anyone and everyone to see. It definitely wasn't a normal death that a human could've done, it seemed almost supernatural somehow.
Cain just stood there, the rotting smell of flesh stung as it made its way through his nostrils. In that moment, he ran back out of the cabin and threw up into a random patch of grass right outside the cabin. The light in the other counselors cabin was on and the door of it swung open, revealing Marcy standing there in a robe with a towel wrapped around her head. She had one hand on her hip and another hand clutching a cigarette with so much ash almost falling off the butt.
"The hell are you doing?"
The look Cain had on his face reminded Marcy very much of a deer in headlights, about to be run down by a drunk truck driver. Her face twisted from frustration to concern. "Are you okay?" Cain shook his head frantically and let out a strangled yell. "Get Ned. Now!!" Marcy didn't question it for a second and darted off across the largeish camp grounds, running over to Ned's office, knocking on the door loudly.
She could hear a grunt coming out from behind the door and heard the office opening up with a click.
Ned towered over her and stared her down earning him an eye roll instead. Marcy wasn't the type of girl to be scared by men easily, she'd often been harassed by them since people just saw her as an object and nothing more. She stubbed out her cigarette on the front step of his office and bored holes through him. "Cain's freaking out about something, you might wanna check it out." She stated with a slow smile spreading across her face before walking down the steps in her open toed slippers. She ran back over to Cain and waited for Ned to come over.
Ned came back with a shotgun in his hands, looking down at disgust at the bile in the grass. Cain ignored the look in his eyes and pointed shakily to the empty cabin.
"In there."
Ned cocked an eyebrow at him and slowly approached the cabin, readying the gun to open fire at anyone who was still moving in there.
Marcy and Cain stared into the cabin in which Ned had disappeared into. As soon as he entered the cabin, he quickly came back out and ran up to them both.
"Where's the rest of them?"
Cain looked up at him, his hands fully glued to him knees. His eyes were full of fear and he shook his head frantically at Ned. "I don't know where they are." His eyes flickered over to Marcy, his eyes full of confusion. She nodded at him and looked over to Ned. "They said they were going for a walk, in the woods."
Ned let out a dramatic sigh and went back over to his office to get into the buggy. "You all stay here. Lock the cabin doors and don't come out until I return." He shouted over to them sternly. Without saying another word he took off in the buggy and disappeared into the darkness of the forest.
Marcy looked down at Cain. "What's in the cabin anyway?" She said as she started walking over to it, just stopping at the foot of it. The door was still open and the light was switched on, all she saw were vines on the walls and ceilings. Neil's body was behind the door but she didn't know this as she slowly stepped inside. Cain could hear a roar of laughter erupting from the room and he snapped his head to look over at her.
"Seriously? Vines? This is why you puked your guts out? If you hated nature so much, you should've just said so." She snorted with laughter and clutched her stomach.
