"We need to talk."
"Alright, let me just take my equipment to my car and then we can talk." The manner in which she said that sentence made me more impatient.
Haha, how could I be suffering with such heavy emotions while she calmly got ready to go home. The thought made a smile creep onto my lips.
"I'll help you then." Although she resisted at first, we made our way to from the upper levels of the company building to the parking lot below.
"Actually...are you hungry? We could go eat something while we talk." We tucked different makeup bags into her trunk. "It's okay. I already ate lunch, you don't have to worry about it." Again, she was so casual it was irritating. "No really. Let's go grab a coffee, I insist."
She looked at me sternly this time.
"Well, I don't want to cause any...trouble. I insist you tell me here." Her tone was soft, and indicating of what she didn't want to occur.
"Trouble.... I-I guess you're right. This parking lot will suffice."
I took a deep breath and cleared my throat.
"Tonya, I..." I gathered all my courage and—
I became more aware of our surroundings. The employees that had not yet left work began turning on their engines and leaving the underground parking lot. Some bowed as they passed us, some eyed us and gossiped, others smiled warmly and wished us a good evening. I waited a little longer. Just enough so that we were the only two people left in the lot.
"You know what, I like it better when you call me Tonya." She said it with a sweet smile. My face broke into a huge smile. Her car disappeared as my eyes brushed past her eyes down to her smile and then back up to her eyes. The feelings inside me threatened to bubble out, feelings I had not yet fully understood. But my heart betrayed me before I could think things through.
"I love you."
