Chapter 6

Red drops streaked my reptile eye bags as I flew dangerously close to clouds. I couldn't afford being caught. Rey belched horrendously at the flinching pain on his skin. I have to take him to the safety before the flock of EROSES baited me. Blue liquid was pouring out of Rey's wounded gnash. He bellowed as I skidded slightly fast. The air whipped his pain higher. I billowed in DRAKI language a few soothing words for him to hold on for few minutes. I was already nearing to the PRIDE. But before I could turn to PRIDE direction, I had to distract our followers. Otherwise, I would see the nightmare leashing on us. I flew towards the nearby lake cutting cross the easy route. It was much necessary. The cool breeze ascended on us as I waved our bodies above the water.

After several minutes of struggle, I found the heap of greenery. Forest. Where, we usually change into our DRAKI form. But there wasn't any time for me to go and waste any minimum time I had. I landed on the roof of my house halting Rey. "What the hell is going..." Sneha halted in her tracks. I roared obnoxiously. Words were not needed. She ran back inside the house. Seconds later, my father came along with Sneha and few other PRIDE members. One look at the scene, he understood. "Max, call the help for Rey." My father picked up Rey instantly yet in his DRAKI form. He hadn't changed. "Transform and get inside" My father's eyes steered hard at me. I flinched. He was so disappointed. And the worry for us could be visibly seen and felt.

I had transformed into human form. Took a quick bath and trotted to guest room where Rey was being treated. "What's happening? How's he?" I questioned hurriedly willing to enter the room to see him by myself. "Shhh... Taani... Swayam is treating him. Your father is inside... Just calm down" Sneha sat beside me. But I couldn't calm down unless I knew Rey was okay. At the exact moment, my father closed the door and walked outside. He looked at me, then lingering his gaze on Sneha. "Sneha, can you please alert the PRIDE to gather for a meeting within 10 min? I'll just finish few words with my daughter and get back" He announced. She nodded and evacuated the place.

"Dad..." I started to explain him. "I never expected you...amongst all... especially you to disobey my orders, Taani" He was stiff. I felt thin blade of sharpness cutting through me. Gods. Breaking his trust was never in my list. I all wished was to fly freely. "Dad... Please..." I struggled to frame words. "I hope, this fault doesn't cost our PRIDE to suffer, Taani" His stoic posture said it all. There was no need of words to explain him what happened. Somehow, he knew. He knew that we were attacked. "You should go and check on Rey" He left.

As I entered the room, Swayam was packing his medical kit. He gestured to join him. Rey was sleeping. He looked peaceful. There were lots of bandages around his leg and mid riff. I looked at Swayam. "He's alright" He assured my concern. "I have dripped moonstone water on his wing burn. Hopefully, it will take little time to fade out all the burns... Let him rest. He'll woke up within few hours" He hung his backpack. "Thank you" My voice cooed in low pitch. He ruffled my head and left with a smile.

It was already 4 hours. Dawn occupied darkening the world. Light was consumed by the darkness. Yet Rey hadn't woke up. I sat nearby to his bed holding his hand. That made me little secure. "Hmmm" slight sound stirred from Rey's mouth as he blinked his eyes open in a slow occupancy. I was so elated to see him awake. "Rey..." I stood squeezing his hands. He squirmed on the bed to sit but the awkward bandages around him made it difficult. "It's okay. Don't move. Just lie down" I held his shoulders. But he was adamant. I made him to sit slightly inclined in a sleeping position on the bed. "I just have a slight pain. I think I'm alright" he checked his body all over. "Swayam was here. He gave you moonstone water." I informed him. "oww..." He felt the pain at his waist as he twisted his body to check his own posture. I suddenly was beside him. "Can't you just lie down for a while..." I chided him. "Swayam's medicine is powerful, Taani. I'm alright..." He held my hand and pulled me to sit beside him on the bed. I obliged. "I was so afraid of losing you, Rey" I said without hesitating. "Hey, I'm here all in one piece. Thanks to you..." He cupped my chin. "I can't imagine if we had got into those monstrous cage" I shivered in his arms at the mere thought. "We are not, Taani. We are here in our PRIDE together, completely alright. Don't worry." He was trying to console me. "But dad knows" I told him. He didn't look surprised. Probably, he knew that my dad knew everything we did.

Suddenly, a loud shriek erupted from the outside area. Bullet sounds buzzed in our ears. I and Rey exchanged glances. "You stay. You need to rest. I'll go and check" I said nonchalantly hoping he would listen. But I knew he wouldn't. My father had put his blood and flesh to safeguard PRIDE community but today we gave a way to invade our territory. That was an insult to my father's sacrifices. I would go and lay my life before any one could harm my people. "Are you kidding? Taani" He stood up in a swift motion, pulling a T-shirt on his head. Though I was concerned about him, I knew I cannot hold him back. Hence, together we stormed outside into the dark.

It was complete chaos outside. PRIDE people were slowly transforming into DRAKI. There were, n no of EROSES invading straight in the center of our land. They were loaded with rifles and guns. They shot continuously aiming for the DRAKIS visualized in front of them. There was no time for peace. I couldn't let my people to suffer for my mistake. Bullets pierced the well-built structure destroying its architecture. A commotion went on as people of our PRIDE narrowly escaped. The reptile forms proceeded into the fight. The razor sharp tooth sucked into some of the EROSES flesh who were pointing gun head towards small infants. Rey transformed into his DRAKI form and flushed towards the PRIDE people who were at the verge of taking a bullet. He pushed them away, spitting a mount of blazing fire on the group of EROSES. Their bodies burnt in a sickening speed. Before, I could take a glance at his visuals of fire even more, the immediate threat alerted me. Sneha in her Grey scales tried to pierce one of the EROSES men. But the other person pointed a sharp knife running to attack her. I immediately changed my form. Thick scales and sharp texture of my skin protruded. My wings automatically lift with an ease playing as a friend to the air. I lifted and pounced on the person woofing a pit of DRAKI fire and his body was in ashes.

Several people of the PRIDE stood in combat with the EROSES. The fight was brutal and severe. We were easily winning the war as EROSES count faded and reduced. As I strode towards Rey to aid him since was fighting 2 EROSES simultaneously, a fierce series of gun shot pierced continuously. Everyone's attention faltered for a second. The bullets straightly sinking in the heart of my father's reptile grey skin. His purple pupils wandered ferociously and landed on me. A sense of calmness landed in his gaze. Something unimaginable stirred inside me. FEAR. I couldn't fathom what was happening. I couldn't understand the person, my father who terrifically killed infinite EROSES was blinking to the door of his evaporation. NO. The amount of pain my heart felt was beyond my death. The misery which started occupying me was a tornado. Tsunami of bile rose from the depths of my inner soul. I screamed in fury as I watched my father's last minutes. I tore to his side roaring like a fucking volcano. I could hardly see Rey following me with a grim shocked face. All other PRIDE people scattered in a circle. 

"Dad" hiccups of words failed to frame a sentence. In an eye blink, Rey was beside me. "Quick Rey... He needs to be checked up..." I formed those words feebly. My father was struggling to open his eyes. "No, Taani..." He held my palm silencing me. "Da..." I stuttered. "Death is unavoidable, Taani..." He spoke with lot of effort. "No..." I screamed. "Please do something, Rey... please" I begged. His helplessness made me even more furious. In the pit of my stomach, I knew there isn't any help which could aid my dad. But I still hoped. My father's eyes turned to Rey. Immediately, Rey held his hand. "Take care of my daughter..." His breathe whipped. His purple eyes took me in. His eyes strained with a single red drop. "PRIDE is yours to rule, Taani. It's... time... that... I...visit...your...mother..." He breathed as his last gaze lingered on me. And the major part of my heart died in that instant. It will never grow back.
