Preface: I hate this one shot the most and I'm sorry if you hate it, too.
New year. New school. Nothing you haven't heard before. Gerard was so used to being a new kid that nothing phased him when he walked into his new highschool.
His first class was chemistry. He knew better than to ask anyone for directions, or anything else for that matter. Teenagers aren't the most helpful creatures. So, Gerard just walked around near people who looked like juniors until he found the right room.
This made Gerard late, so when he finally made it to class there was only one chair left, which was next to a very short boy. He looked like he should still be in middle school. He had black hair and lots of piercings. Gerard realized he was staring a little too long, so he looked away quickly and sat down.
The boy didn't seem to notice that Gerard had just taken the seat next to him, which he was used to.
"Okay class!" The teacher shouted over the noise, clapping their hands together once for emphasis. "Time to get started. I'll go over some stuff from last year and then we'll dive right in!" They said enthusiastically.
Hearing the noise, the boy next to Gerard quickly snapped his head up and ripped out his earbuds. He glanced over and saw Gerard, making him jump a little. Then he smiled politely. "Hey. I'm Frank."
"Gerard," he answered, smiling back.
"You're new here," Frank stated, not really asking. Gerard nodded. "I can tell because you sat beside me." He gave a small giggle, which made Gerard turn red.
"C'mon, you can't be as bad as me," he joked.
"Oh, but I can be. I'm just an 'emo fag' here," Frank said a little less lightly.
"No one's called me that before, but same goes for me, I guess," Gerard told him, not sure why he was still carrying on a conversation with him at all. It contradicted his loner vibes.
Frank didn't know how to respond anyways, so he just nodded and awkwardly turned to face the teacher, who was still going on about safety proceedures and all that. Gerard, slightly disappointed and slightly relieved, did the same.
"Well!" The teacher exclaimed. "Now that the quick review's out of the way, let's get to work! Get with the partner next to you and follow the instructions on the board! And remember to put on your safety goggles before you even turn on your bunsen burners!"
The two boys put on their goggles in silence, but they eventually had to talk to do the work.
"Hey, can you pass me that red stuff?" Gerard asked.
"Great scientific term," Frank laughed, handing the beaker to him. Gerard laughed and rolled his eyes.
"Shut up. I'm not taking this class because I want to, y'know."
"No kidding. I'm not taking any classes that I don't have to take. It's just too much. Sometimes I just skip some classes. Mainly math. You ever skipped before?"
"No, but I would," Gerard shrugged.
"Cool. There's always tests on Thursdays, so-oh shit!" Frank stopped short, drawing his attention to the mixuture they made. It was bubbling in a way it definitely should not be. Gerard acted quickly and turned off the flame while Frank moved the beaker away.
They watched their mixture for a minute, hoping it would simmer down. It did eventually stop, but when it did, it let off a sudden burst of reddish steam that formed into a heart, which disappeared within seconds. Frank and Gerard looked at each other and blushed.
"See class, this is what happens when you don't pay attention!" The teacher shouted, motioning to their mess. The boys rolled their eyes and cleaned up their mess.
"I'll get another beaker," Gerard said, standing up.
"And I'll get some paper towels," Frank said.
They rushed to the other side of the room to get their supplies. The two were in such a hurry to get their stuff without getting attention from other classmates and to start over fast, they didn't notice where they were walking and ran right into each other. Frank was heavy, despite his small height, and caused Gerard to fall down below him. They fell so hard that their faces collided, making them accidentally kiss.
Frank rolled off him and up as fast as he could, but he was still bright red. He grabbed Gerard's hand and pulled him up. To their great relief, no one had noticed, but they were still both mortified.
"Uh..." Gerard started.
"Er..." Frank tried to finish for him.
"Well...I mean...you're not a bad kisser, for what it's worth," he said before he could stop himself.
Frank was a bit shocked, but smirked and played along. "Oh really? Then maybe I should kiss you on purpose so you can fully appreciate my skill."
Gerard laughed and playfully hit him on the arm. "I might have to take you up on that offer, then, you cocky little nerd."
Frank smirked again and looked around. "Guess who's acting like we don't exist so we can probably kiss again?"
"Wow. Your advances are hard to say no to," Gerard said sarcastically. "But, yes."
