Chapter 20

As I stood by the window gazing at the moon, the door opened and quiet footsteps followed. I knew it was Alex, his scent filled the room the second he stepped in. His warm hands snaked around my waist and his torso pushed into my back as he pulled me into him. He leaned down his face and rested his chin on top of my head. I couldn't help but close my eyes and melt into him. His presence and scent comforting me.

"I hope you don't think about giving yourself up" his voice was low, raspy. As he spoke, a vibration echoed from his chest into my back.

"There is no other way" I muttered.

His hands moved to my shoulders and he sharply turned me around to face him. I kept my eyes on his chest but he placed his thumb and forefinger on my chin tilting my head to look at him.

"We'll figure something out," he tried to reassure me. I moved my eyes back to his chest and nodded. I knew what needed to be done. I made my mind before I got into the apartment after replayed every possible outcome. And it would end up with at least one of them dead. There was no other way. It pained me to do it, I finally found someone I cared about. I felt deeply for him, it wasn't only an attraction anymore. It was either me or them. I couldn't have their blood on my hands. Olivia deserved a happy life and the same went for Alex.

His hand pressed against my cheek and I leaned into his hand, even more, cherishing these moments while they lasted. He wiped the tear that escaped my eye with his thumb.

"Please... Don't cry" his emerald depths were full of affection and warmth. Drowning in his eyes I tore away my eyes as my heart sank. Agony engulfed my heart feeling his tenderness towards me. Oh, how I wished my life wouldn't be so complicated. He showed me so much affection for the past few days and even days before. But everyone single one of them would be better off me. I was a risk. Vampires or werewolfs were always after me, they would always have their lives at risk and I couldn't let that happen. Since the death of my parents, my life has been one huge chaos and so was theirs since I appeared in their lives. Death followed me everywhere.

Since Henry wouldn't just let me live my life, and it was impossible to even get close to him never mind killing him I had to do it. Maybe I would get a chance to kill him. Maybe he would be man enough to want to kill me himself and I would actually have a chance at killing him. I knew it would have to be a miracle, but I held on to the little hope.

At the end of the day, hope was what kept me going all those years I ran. Hope kept me alive, hope guided me through my dark times after my parents were murdered and through the loneliness. Hope that one day I could have a normal life. Since that was out of the question, I hoped for at least killing Henry and the slayers would have one less council member to worry about.

Here I was, in the hands of a man I loved. Was it love? I was going to put my life down to protect him. It was love. I was no longer lonely but I couldn't let him get killed because of me. I couldn't live with myself if that would happen.

I found his stunning green depths, he watched me intently, his eyes moved all over my face, studying me. I drowned in his eyes, not wanting to ever be rescued. I wished to be frozen at that exact moment. Embraced in his hands, with his intense piercing eyes on me and his scent of orange, musk and nutmeg filling my nose every time I breathed in.

He lowered his lips to mine and gently brushed them against mine. Our noses brushed against each other and our foreheads connected. "I love you" he whispered. My heart picked up a pace and butterflies erupted in my stomach. "I love you too" I whispered back. He smiled and kissed me. The kiss was gentle but I felt all the emotions he poured into it. I felt the love, the warmth, the passion. I returned his kiss with the same fervour.
