hi it's C here, just so ya'll know, I did plan on making this a chapter, but then it was really short, but THEN the last chapter already had a few views so I was like no one's gonna see it if I try to add this next thing to the previous chapter SO ANYWAY HERE'S THE NEXT PART it's just SUPER short that's all. READ ON

I watch as the cat, Machiavelli, gets closer to Luca, and then next thing I know Luca is on the floor with the cat attacking his face. I gasp and jump onto the floor on top of them. I start trying to pull the cat off of Luca then it turns on me and starts attacking my face instead. I fall backwards and try desperately to get this scratching thing off of me. I feel like it's never gonna stop until I see Giulia's dad pull the cat off of me.

"Go!" He yells, trying to keep the cat away from us. Giulia rushes us out the doors then slams them shut. We walk down the hallway, down the stairs, and out a door that we didn't use to come in. What just happened? We are in the yard area now.

"I don't know what got into him," Giulia says.

"It's fine. We're gonna head back to, uh . . ." Luca trails off and looks back at me.

"Oh, do you guys need a place to stay?" Giulia asks, and looks up at a tree. We smile and follow her up the wood pieces nailed to the tree and sit down. There's a wooden floor with some pillows and books, and lights hung up through the leaves and branches.

"Cool," Luca says, looking around.

"Oops, sorry," Giulia says picking up the books. "This is my-"

"Your hideout," I finish.

"Huh. Yeah, my hideout," She smiles. "Buonanotte, boys." She starts going from the branch to a window in the house. Then she drops one of the books and dives through the window. "Oops, slipped." I wonder if that's supposed to be about when Luca said 'slipped' earlier. Huh. "Uh, see you in the morning," She said and slammed the little doors on the window shut.

Luca sighs. "That was close."

"I know. Like, how big was that dad human?" I pick up the pillows sitting there and hand one to Luca. "That guy kills things, for sure." We lay down.

"I thought we were gonna die, like, a hundred times." Luca curls up facing me. I tap him with my hand.

"Hey, relax. We're incredible at this humaning stuff." Luca rolls onto his back too.

"Yeah, you're right. Did you see me on the bike?" I look over at him, smiling. "Giulia said, look up, and all of the sudden I was riding it!"

Eh. I like that Luca is excited about the bike, but not about Giulia helping him. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Our vespa's gonna be even better than a bike. Because the moment we get it, we're outta here."

"Yeah, I can't wait." Luca says. I stare up at the big fish for a minute then close my eyes. I almost feel myself asleep, but I force my eyes open and look over at Luca. He seems to be asleep. I stare at his peaceful face, his pinkish cheeks, his brown freckles scattered across his cheeks. Oh, um, I should probably get to sleep. I lay down and close my eyes. I feel my thoughts drift away and my mind fall asleep.
