I stare in shock.
What?
"I said, I'm elemental, right?"
Is she, Sunny?
Maybe, child. Did she have connections, like you did?
I don't know,
Then ask her.
"Did you have... connections?" I ask Ali.
"What?" She stares at me, tilting her head curiously.
Yay yay, finally done math, get to see Ali, WHAT IS ALI WEARING!? Hah. That's SO out of trend, I could PUNCH HER.
Ow. I clutch my forehead in an brain-splitting headache.
Shannon appears, scowling at Ali, mean, but at least she doesn't seem to care about me.
Love, pride and joy pulses from Ali, whereas hatred and anger radiates around Shannon, like the way danger radiates around fire.
"That dress." Sneers Shannon, and if looks could kill, Ali would be dead now.
"What?"
Child. Are you okay?
Danger is coming. Danger is coming. Danger is coming.
Child-
Ali dead. Ali hurt. Ali, no friends.
Child, can you hear-
Danger is coming.
Child are you-
It will be all right.
Danger is coming.
Child, are you there?
Danger is father.
Danger is mother.
Danger is friend.
Danger is enemy.
Danger is closer, closer,
Danger is here.
Ali turns and hugs Shannon, then she pulls apart.
"I need to go," She says, smiling.
"Go where?" Shannon asks, growing anger again.
"Go talk about my-"
Oops. Oh no. Shannon is not leaning about magic.
"New video game." I cut her off.
"But Ali hates video games." Shannon raises her eyebrows, and coldness is slowly creeping up my blood like how the moon creeps up the sky at night.
"Well she likes this one," I grab Ali's wrist and fight back whatever those visions are. "C'mon, Ali, let's go." My blood is cold, and I'm getting the feeling that Ali's is too.
We walk in awkward silence over to some grass, thankfully far away from Shannon.
"But... you didn't tell Shannon about magic," Ali says, disappointed.
I know I didn't. She can't know...
...and neither can you.
...
Signs of spring are more here.
In the ditch I go to when the noise of the humans becomes to much, the spring is blossoming. The crystalline snow is melting, the weeds are taller, and the undergrowth is thickening.
