Three days have passed since Amy died.
Ali and me have been going to the library non stop, even in school. I miss Amy. And I miss Aqua. The late spring just isn't helping any. It's making her even more impatient. I know what that feels like. Oh, Aqua, how are you?
Ali wants me to talk to Dennis about something or other, aka the prophecy.
As always. What she doesn't understand is that I'd be so frigging embarrassed if I was to do that. I don't think I could walk up to the middle of the soccer field and tell him. Ask him. And he wouldn't even say yes. And here I am, asking him. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
"Hello." I say awkwardly. "I'm here to," Woah. His mom is... well... hot. Luxurious black curls flow down her shoulders. Her chest shows caramel brown tanned skin. She wears a daring purple dress. Her brown eyes look me up and down. "Do I know you?" She asks, tilting her head to one side.
"Uh, not really. I'm Dennis's study partner." I explain.
"Oh! Hola, come on in." She beckons me inside. "No sé qué demonios está haciendo aquí..." She mutters. Dennis appears in the hall. He gives his mom a death glare. I have no idea what his mom just said. But I'm defiantly going on google translate later.
"So I guess we're gonna study division?" He asks.
"Sure," I say, shrugging.
We walk to the beige and spacious living room. "Why are you really here?" He raises his eyebrows. "Fine." I roll my eyes in annoyance. "I'm really here because I want to tell you about the prophecy."
"Really?"
"Really. So um, there's a prophecy."
"Yes, I know that. Skip to the good part." He picks up a candy and unwraps it loudly.
"Well, I thinkkkkk that we're supposed to kill humanity."
"Well that's, WHAT!" Dennis jumps up, the candy falling to the light floor with a soft plunk.
"Dennis? ¿Estás bien?" His mom calls worriedly from the kitchen.
"You say we're supposed to..." He makes a motion across his neck.
"Yes." I grimace. "Does the prophecy really say that?" He asks.
"Well, it says 'will burn humanity to a coal.' Of course, you already knew that, but I think I figured out why it's 'burn humanity.'"
"Why?" Dennis sits down on the couch.
"Because..." His mom walks over to the living room. "Because if fifty is divided by five then it would be ten..."
"I miss studying grade four math," His mom sighs, wiping a sharp knife on a red towel.
"See you tomorrow." I get up hastily.
I almost run out the door. And of course, that's when I run into Jessica.
"Oh, like, hi!" She waves, her diamond bracelets clanging. And ew, that perfume smells.
"So, I'm here to study with Dennis on math, this is the proper address, right?" She asks, smiling toxically.
"Ooh, I wouldn't do that if I were you."
"Why not?"
"Because I studied with him."
"Oh yeah sweetheart, I think I'm just gonna go do that." She shows her pearly white teeth. And yeah, I'm hosting a party! Come tomorrow at eight p.m., that leaves room for you to put makeup on," She smiles as if to say; because you really need it. "And don't be late! The dress code is black and white, and like, Beatrice Sally and Victor Gusefeather is gonna be there! I send a limo to pick you up at Ali's house!" She swoons.
