Spirits

Rain patters on my damp back as I enter the school.

It's past winter now, and this is first actual rain we've had other then the blobby mix of delicate snow flakes and fat droplets.

And there's a tinsee bit of lightning. I wish there would be like, a tornado or something.

This doorway is a puddle. Literally a puddle. Water flowing out the school, water cruising in the school, and I almost smile. The hyenas are gonna get a nasty surprise.

I'm detriment to bring as much water into the school as I can when I see a sky-blue broad with crimson letters crying: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY D!"

What?

Probably doesn't mean anything. Millions of people have a birthday today. On the ninth of march. With the nickname 'D'. With the broad out side of his class. With soccer balls decorating the broad. Like I said, it doesn't mean anything.

Right?

I get to class, and stop dead in my trails.

"Did you know its Dennis's birthday!" Asks Andy to pretty much every one.

WHAT?!

"HELLO!" Booms voice on the loud speaker. "NOW IF YOU WOULD ALL STAND UP-- OHHHHHHH CANNNNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, SOMETHINGGGGGGGGGGG SOMETHING SOMETHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG, WEEEEEE STANNNDDDDD OUR LAND! AND  SOMETHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG ESLSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, OHHHHHHHH CANADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! ALSO, PATROL TRAING TODAY; DON'T BE LATE, AND IT'S DENNIS ELEMENT'S BIRTHDAY TODAY!" The voice cackles out to a small fizzing.

So.

Sssssssssssssssso. It might be his birthday, but it doesn't really matter. It's not like he's going to lose his power or something.

I am totally over-reacting.

The day will go fine; I know it will.

...

"Julia."

"Julia."

"JULIA!" Ali cries.

"What, yes?" I jerk.

"Julia, your not doing that again, right?" Ali raises her eye brows.

"Maybe I ammmmmm, maybe I'm n-- oh fine." I roll my eyes.

"Stop trying to reach him." Ali fiddles with her sweater, giving me a cold stare.

"Come on! It's not like I'm ruining his chance of joining us or anything," I cry.

"You are. C'mon, lets go talk or, oh no," Ali shrinks in fear.

What scared her? I wonder.

"It's Shadowhunter." Ali says, fear in her dark eyes.

"Who?"

"Come. And I'll tell you about the Sun."

...

The Sun sounds like a boring place.

Also, a place full of lies, because she's lying about most stuff.

Ali was an low-born. The lowest of the low. She barely could feed herself. Her parents were kind people who wanted their only child to have an education. After awhile, they finally got her into a school that somehow  brought their students all over the Sun, to learn what their powers were. Elemental powers. Like me. So, Ali, or Firedancer, as she was called on the Sun, made friends with the princesses and queens. Honestly. So yada yada, queen Firestar, queen of the Sun, one day saw how talented Firedancer was at archery   So Firestar made Firedancer a archer for Firestar's palace. But Firedancer didn't want to go, yada yada, and was sent down to earth as a punishment. So yada yada, Firedancer was born, became Ali, and now she met me.

"How... interesting." I nod.

Ali beams. The rancid stank of lying is wafting off of her. I'm a mind reader. Does she think she can get away with lying that easily?
Let's see, Ali.

The game is on.

...

Hello. I jump out of my skin. WHAT was that?

Don't worry; I'm kind, Dearie. The others are having a party.

Oh, Sweetheart, says another voice. This voice is more of a drunk auntie at a party, compared to the wise grandma of the first voice.

Hello, who are you and why are you in my head?  I ask.

"Hi," I skid to a stop.

"Dennis. Hi. I didn't know you'd be here."

--I think we're part of  something terrible.

He winces.

"You okay?"

"It feels like I'm in a tornado. And it smells like... fear from a million people."

"Really? Weird."

Oh dearie, you've finally done it. Smarty Pants, get everything you can on ES.

I'm NOT SMARTY PANTS!

Oh yes you are. Respect your elders, Smarty Pants.

You used that card, Old Dear.

WHAT?!

Oh fine.

The spirits are feisty.

I jerk my head up; and realize that he left.

...

The spirits are annoying.  All they do is fight. And talk. And Smarty Pants 'claims' she knows everything. My math test grades that I did today can tell you how much she actually knows.

Not a lot.

Somehow I've gotten into fights galore with the Old Dear, of course by calling her the Old Dear. And Smarty Pants hates me now; because I called her Smarty Pants.

Boulder (thank goodness) is a human who helped the Elementals keep their secret so he was gifted by the ability of becoming a spirit after death. And he doesn't talk much.

Except he just had to tell me his life story when I was doing my math test.

Moaning Myrtle just cried all the time and when I asked her what was wrong, she just sobbed some more. I bet there's buckets of water in my brain.

But the worst of these warring spirits is by far, The Mad Hatter.

She can make her voice sound like Sunny's or one of the other spirits. But she'll have her fun then she'll make her voice sound creepy and say: 'Child,'

That's always how I know that's it's her.

And the worst part; they can read my mind. Whoops. They just. Heard. Me. Thinking. That.

Like a rushing wave, their offended voices come into my thoughts.

How could you? Asks Moaning Myrtle, her voice scarcely audible amongst her hiccupping sobs.

Humph, I'm gonna be in a fight with you for calling me Smarty Pants in your thoughts! Oh wait, I'm already in a fight with you! Never mind.

You must respect  your elders!

Of course, I'm the worst one, Child.

Wha? Asks Boulder, his ragged voice demanding. Do you have any more exciting things? I'm getting quite bored. Maybe an eternal void after death isn't so bad.

I stifle a giggle. The spirits are horribly pressing, but at least they make me laugh.

Hi! This chapter was horribly short, but yesh with school and stuff your gonna have to get used to short chapters. (Just sayin). But ten chapters! Yay! I honestly thought I would quit after, 6 maybe?
