-Melony's POV-I groaned and sat up. My mind swam with emptiness as I surveyed my surroundings. I was in a room with hastily applied wooden walls, and a worn out bed.
What the hell?
I swung my feet over the side of the meager bed, and stood up. Pain shot through my skull and I slumped to the ground with a thud. Black spots swam through my vision. I heard a door open and close behind me as I tried to heave myself off the hard floor.
Clenching my jaw, I felt a pair of hands haul me back onto the bed. I squeezed my eyes shut, willing the pain away, and opened them again.
A girl stood on the edge of the bed and peered down at me. "Morning, Initiative."
"Uh... Good morning?" I replied, puzzled. The girl smirked. She wore dirt smudged clothes and her eyes shone with those of a soldier. She had silky brown hair that fell down her back like a waterfall.
"I'm Emilee, by the way. And you probably want some answers," the girl replied, turning around and walking towards the window.
"Yes, please. I-", I started to say, before being cut off by Emilee.
"Which I cannot give to you," she said with a laugh. I pouted. Turning from the window she pressed her lips together. "I am not authorized to answer any of your questions".
"Ok, then why are you even here," I snapped, trying to suppress my frustration, which wasn't working.
"I happen to be temporarily out of my normal job due to........... Some issues," Emilee said, motioning to her badly swollen ankle that was wrapped up sloppily.
"Now," she said, snapping me out of my thoughts, "Do you remember your name, anything?" Emilee gave me a questioning look.
I racked my empty mind for something, anything. Out of thin air, a name appeared in my mind, and I suppose it was my own. "Melony. My name is Melony."
Emilee smiled and walked away from the window. "Is that all?" I nodded. She made her way toward the door but stopped, noticing my expression. "You'll get answers soon, just a few more hours of rest. You need it.... Uhm....." Emilee said, stammering at the last bit.
"Melony," I laughed. Emilee smiled.
"Right then. I'll be around later to pick you
back up and show you around." Emilee waved a goodbye and walked out of the small room, slamming the door behind her.I slumped back on the stiff bed and rubbed my temple.
God, I'm screwed.
