Shane has been my husband for I don't know how long now. Maybe 2 years? Yoba... What kind of wife/husband am I? Not knowing how many years we've been together. But anyway, it's almost our anniversary. Shane's out and about since it's a Friday. I planned on surprising him with a chicken statue I found while digging. He oughta be surprised!
As I have all the chickens out, including Charlie, to prepare somewhat a grand entrance to the Farm. I had them practice from the chicken coop to the entrance of the Farm, holding a sign that reads 'Happy Anniversary Shane!' with his favorite colors: Blue & Green.
A buffet with all his favorite are waiting inside the house, hot and ready. Beverages served cold in the fridge. The house is tidier than before and the Farm's brighter than ever. Many lights were hanging on a string, including on the coop and the barn.
It's currently 5:30 PM right now. There's still some time to go around and check if everything's at place. While doing so, I'll tell you my story...
~
Shane and I had our wedding before his birthday, on Spring 19. I did plan on marrying him on the winter, since the place is covered in white snow and ice crystals would be a thing. But I was having a decision- I was going around town befriending a lot of bachelors. I'll be honest, I had eyes for every single one of 'em, except Shane.
I wasn't so keen on him at all. I didn't give any second glances to him unlike every bachelor in Town. Not until it was my second year in Pelican Town that I started to get interested in Shane.
When I gave him a birthday present (Which was beer), he seemed so happy at that time. I started to walk home through the Cindersap Forest, since I wanted to harvest stuff on the way. Until there was light on the pond. My curiosity got the better of me, and I started to reel myself in and walked to the dock where I found Shane, sober still. There was alcohol around him though, and I sat down beside him and talked about, you know, how hard life is.
And after that time, we got closer together. Shane stopped being rude to me, and I bought him gifts almost every twice a week. Shane was actually fun to be around. He's not full of himself like Alex, he's not clingy like Sam, he's not too much of an emo like Sebastian, he's not confusing to talk to like Elliott, and he doesn't ask me if I'm ok all the time like Harvey.
Shane was rude, he's drunk every night, but he's broken on the inside. And I know- I know- Shane is a softie, he has an affection for chickens; and he's trying hard to quit these bad habits. How do I know this? He has a goddaughter: Jas. He doesn't give his time for her, but he treated her well. Why would Jas's parents even made Shane a godfather if he's too drunk to do it? That proves my point to everyone who ever talks bad about him.
The day I asked him to be my boyfriend was the most joyful day of his life. He was ecstatic about it and answered 'Yes!' immediately. We started to go out together by the Cindersap Forest with Jas, and Marnie was practically happy about it. Unfortunately, Shane still hadn't quit his habits yet.
He's found unconscious in his own room and I had to witness him and Marnie having a row about it. That one summer time when I found him by the cliffs was the most depressing part of my, and his, life. He was still sober though, he talked about his life again after a long time, it was sad to hear everything: The truth of how he became alcoholic. I took him to the clinic in time. He was safe.
While he was in the clinic getting some rest and medicine; I stopped by the beach with 5,000g in hand. And bought myself a Mermaid Pendant. An item that lets you marry one of the bachelors/bachelorettes in Town. And that's the time I planned on marrying Shane. (Shane had also thought of finding help. He finally stopped his bad habits of drinking and drank fresh water instead.)
And on winter, I was sidetracked by Sebastian. Who starts to talk to me more and is open about himself too. Me and Shane were distant in the winter. I was too focused on Sebastian. I met Sebastian first before Shane; and he was lazy to talk to me at that time. But after a few gifts, like Shane, he was open about his feelings to me. How Robin never payed anymore attention to his own son no more.
After winter, it was Shane's upcoming birthday that drew near. I got caught up with Sebastian that I forgot to propose to him. Then a thought hit me. Shane's birthday's coming up, why not propose to him before his birthday? Good thinking (Y/N)! And I know, during proposing the two couples will have to plan on their wedding for 3 days, so I'd have to propose to him in advance.
4 days before Shane's birthday. We both took a walk by the pond, where we had first had a real conversation with each other. It felt like many years, but it had only been 1. It was time for me to act.
I pulled out the Mermaid Pendant and proposed to my one and only. He thought it was a mere joke or a prank that I'm just screwing with him. But I was serious. He broke down in tears, and so did I, he said yes and we both passionately kissed each other. Everything was perfect!
3 days later, the day came with bright lights. A not-so-crowded Town Square, a white veil; and a white dress that Emily hand-made was waiting for me. Skip to the part: we got married happily.
Shane moved in with me, and the next day, we were celebrating his birthday! His life turned down hill then up again. He never thought he could get married with someone and stopped drinking. He never thought he would make Marnie and Jas so proud. And he never thought that that person he would be marrying... Is me. The town's favorite and helpful farmer (If you're not then forget that that last part even exists-).
~
And that leads us here: 4 years later (Oh I've actually been married to Shane for 4 years!) and we're still living happily.
Have I told you we also have kids? One boy and one girl. The girl's name is Jane. There's a reason for that. Shane and Jas' names were combined, I want a part of them to always be in the house when they're taking a walk outside together. The boy's name is James, same reason too; although I changed the 'n' to 'm' and added an 's.'
Bawk! Bawk!
Charlie was making a noise outside. That would mean Shane is coming home. I didn't realize it's already 10 PM...
I quickly hid behind a nearby bush and kept quiet. Shane was at view, thankfully, he never drinks in the Saloon anymore and just interacted with Emily. He scanned the place, confused, he saw the chickens holding up the sign.
"Surprise!" I revealed myself from the bush. "Happy anniversary, love!"
"(Y/N)..." He said. He started to tear up and that scared me.
"Are you ok? What happened?"
"N-Nothing..." He wiped a tear from his eye. "I'm just so... I'm lucky to have you."
He approached me with open arms and hugged me tightly. His fingers held my chin and he forced me to look up at him, our lips meet and chickens bawk with excitement. His kiss was full of love and passion, all those years of being together, still stayed with him. We parted and breathe. He started to chuckle.
"Heh, I guess there's hope in life after all." Shane said.

Fun fact about this oneshot: It's a story between my save and experience in the game Stardew Valley. My perspective in Shane in the game. I never really payed attention to Shane until the second year on his birthday. Where, in that year, I made a goal to myself to give every single townsfolk a b-day gift.
That's when I encountered Shane- and you already know the story as you read this oneshot ;) Hope you like it! Sorry I haven't been publishing alright. I haven't had the motivation so. I'll try to publish more though.
