Mikaela's POV

Jen and I arrived at the cinema just as the sun was beginning to set. The strong smell of popcorn wafted through my nose as I entered. And of course, like any typical weekend, the theatre was crowded. Lines of at least twenty people stood at the ticket booths, while the majority was either wandering around or buying food at the concession counters at the back.

Jen made a face. "Of all the possible weekends, the whole town decided to choose this night," She muttered.

I smirked slightly. "You did choose to come on a weekend," I pointed out. "We could've easily gone on a day with less people, like a Monday, or even a Tuesday-"

Jen waved her hand dismissively, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. I'm going over to the concession to get the food, which leaves you in charge of tickets."

I turned back to her. "Wait, why do I have to..." I trailed off, realizing Jen had already left my side and had disappeared into the tangle of people. I sighed lightly, shaking my head and went over to join the ticket line.

I was looking up at the show-times behind the counter, trying to decide if Jen would want to watch 'Struck by Lightning' in 3D or the regular showing when I sensed a presence behind me.

"Are you in line to see Struck by Lightning?"

I turned around to see a young guy of about my age, twenty one smiling at me. He was cute, with short dark hair and striking blue eyes. I also couldn't help noticing the Harvard hoodie he wore, though it looked to be about a size too big for him.

"Yeah, I am," I responded, pulling a friendly smile.

College guy's eyes lit up and he took a step closer to me. "Me, too. Maybe you and I could sit together," He said with a suggestive wink.

My smile wavered. Ah, so that was his intention.

"Thanks for the offer," I started politely, "But I'm here with a friend."

"Oh, yeah?" College guy glanced around, as if he actually knew what my friend looked like. "I don't see your friend anywhere."

Wow, could he be any more of a jerk? I was starting to doubt that this guy was actually from Harvard. He could've bought that hoodie from anywhere. After all, it was a bit strange he'd come all the way from Massachusetts just to pick up Californian girls, but I guess anything was possible.

However, instead of telling him this, I simply replied, "Sorry, I'm not interested," and turned back to face the front.

"Come on, Babe," The guy persisted. "It's just one movie. I'm a nice guy, and you seem like a nice girl. You should have some fun."

I scowled slightly. Clearly, he wasn't taking no for an answer.

Back when I was with Derek, I was used to guys looking my way or trying to put the move on me. They would flirt all the time, sometimes even in front of him. And boy did that piss him off; which in some sense, it was kind of nice because I never had to say anything to them since most of the time, Derek would give them death glares or threaten the very ground that they stood on not to come within ten feet of me. Suffice to say; not very many guys (who valued their body parts) approached me after that. However, now that Derek wasn't glued to my side anymore, guys were starting to get the idea that I was "single and ready to mingle" again.
