•••Ashton•••
You sigh of relief as you drop your four shopping bags on the floor. You had been at the mall for hours with two of your closest friends and now all you want to do now is to lay down on the couch and relax until you fall asleep. The muscles in your legs and arms ache as you make your way into the kitchen to get some water before going into the living room. When you enter the kitchen, the room is dim with candles being the only source of light except for one window and you frown out of confusion. You can vaguely smell the scent of the spaghetti on the able, which is most likely cold by now. “Shit.” You mutter when you catch a glance of the date at the calendar. “You finally decided to show up, huh?” Ashton speaks from behind you and you whip around to face him. He’s raising his eyebrows at you, seeing if you have a retort to come with, but you can easily detect the hurt behind his behavior. “Ash, I-" You start, your mind hastily trying to think of an excuse. “You know,we agreed on this date three weeks ago.I started planning it the same day because I wanted it to be perfect.” His face turns to face the floor for a brief second before meeting your gaze again.Your stomach tightens. “I know! And I’m sorry.I was at the mall.” You nearly slap yourself when the words leave your mouth. Ashton scoffs. “Oh, so you’d rather spend the day at the mall than having a date with your boyfriend? I’d really appreciate it if you told me next time so I won’t have to waste my time on planning it.” “Ashton, that’s not fair! You know I want to spend time with you.I just forgot about it, okay? Stop making me the bad guy!” Ashton throws his arms up in exclamation, sighing loudly. “I’m not! But it hurts that you forgot because I spent a lot of time and effort on this.I wanted us to have a really nice day together before I leave for tour again!” You close your eyes, inhaling deeply as you try to swallow the sudden lump in your throat.Seeing Ashton hurt is one of the worst things you know and it’s ten times worse when you’re the one that caused it. “Hey, no, don’t cry. I’m sorry, baby. Please don’t cry.” He steps closer, pulling you into his arms effortlessly.Resting your head on his chest, you listen to his steady heartbeat. “I should say sorry. You did nothing wrong.I’m sorry I forgot our date.By the looks of it, I think it’d be pretty amazing.” Ashton chuckles, the sound rumbling through his chest. “I think we just had our first fight, babe. And I really don’t like fighting with you.”•••Calum•••
You’re on your way downstairs to ask Calum if you should start with dinner when you overhear him mentioning your name.Curiosity gets the best if you and you come to an abrupt stop being the corner.Even though you can already feel the guilt gnaw on your conscious, you can’t help yourself and listen closely as his continues his conversation Luke who had come over earlier. “I don’t know, dude. I don’t know how to tell her.” You hear Luke clear his throat and the couch squeaking, so you imagine him shifting uncomfortably. “It’s better to just tell her politely than for her to find out some other way.” Pursing your lips, you wreck your brain trying to find out what they could be talking about. You know it’s about you, but from the little pieces of conversation you’ve heard, it can be anything. “Cal, you can’t keep pretending that you like her food forever.” You stumble out from behind the curve of the wall, too shocked to notice that you just gave away your hiding place. “What?" Calum whips around at the sound of your strangled word.He looks like a deer caught in the headlights but then his expression changes in the matter of a brief second. “Were you just eavesdropping?” Your mind is hazy with confusion, but you’re able to gather yourself enough to come with a retort. “Don’t turn this around on me! I was going to ask if I should start on dinner and then I heard you say my name.” Calum raises an eyebrow, silently telling you that you just proved his point. “Which is the same thing as eavesdropping! Y/N,I’m allowed to talk to my friends about you.” Your teeth latch onto your bottom lip.The two of you had never really had a fight before. “Yes, you are. But I prefer if they were nice things! If there’s something you don’t like about me then why won’t you tell me? Or go find someone better?” “Because I don’t fucking want anyone else! Why do you think I’ve kept this to myself for five months? Just the fact that you ask to cook dinner for us when you’re at my apartment makes me fall even harder for you.” You can’t help the smile making its way to your lips or the sudden warm blush covering your cheeks.Inhaling shakily, you relish the feeling of him feeling the same as you. You bite your lip again. “I guess you don’t want me to cook dinner now though.” Calum raises his eyebrows, bursting into fits of laughter. With a wide grin,he strides across the floor and pulls you into his arms.Luke clears his throat and you suddenly become aware that he’s still there. “I’m… Gonna go now. Please don’t fight again anytime soon.” And then he’s out the door, leaving you and Calum laughing loudly.
