There was a girl. Jim Lake Jr., awkward teen extraordinaire, had brought a girl with him into your shop. Granted, this girl seemed more like a friend then a girlfriend, but you'd been around long enough to know when a boy liked a girl.
"So is this the part where I get to meet your girlfriend, Jimbo?" you teased with a giant grin as Toby, Jim, and the girl walked up to the counter.
"Uh, I'm not his girlfriend," the girl corrected before Jim or Toby could even react. "I'm Claire Nunez, the newest member of the team," she introduced herself, sticking her hound out for you to shake with a smile.
"Oh, radical, man! I'm (y/n)," you greeted, shaking Claire's hand with a big toothy smile. Claire laughed nervously, pulling her hand back.
"You're a lot... different then I expected you to be," Claire said, looking you up and down. You laughed. She did have a point. You'd felt nostalgic so you were currently decked out like you were going to be a part of coming of age 80's move.
"You get used to it," Toby said, sitting on the stool and smiling at you expectantly. You chuckled, ruffling his hair affectionately as you turned away to make his hot chocolate.
"I thought you were a book seller, not a barista," Claire said, sitting next to Toby with a curious smile.
"I'm both! I own and run this place, so I sell the books and make all the drinks that are sold here, along with selling my cd and record collection," you said, gesturing to the display towards the left corner of the store as you turned around and placed Toby's hot chocolate in front of him. Claire gasped.
"Do you have the Papa Skull vinyl?" she asked excitedly. You smiled fondly at her excitement.
"I do indeed. Do you wanna buy it now, or should I hang on to it for you?" you asked, turning away to prepare Jim's tea.
"That's okay, I was just curious," Claire dismissed, clearly trying to contain her excitement. You nodded with an understanding hum.
"What can I get you, fair Claire?" you asked with a friendly smile, turning and setting Jim's tea in front of him.
"Oh, so she gets the good nickname?" Toby grumbled, making you laugh.
"Aw, is my little Toby-Woby upset?" you teased, snickering as he pouted. Claire and Jim lightly laughed at the sight.
"I'll just have some water, thanks," Claire said. You nodded, grabbing a cup and filling it. The bell rang and you looked over, smiling as Eli walked in.
"Hey, kiddo! How've you been?" You asked, setting Claire's water in front of her.
"I'm good!" Eli chirped happily, wandering into the sci-fi section of the store. You chuckled fondly.
"There is a reason we're here today, (y/n)," Claire began, Toby and Jim looking at Claire curiously. Clearly they hadn't gotten the memo. You bit back a smile.
"What is it, Claire? Is everything okay?" You asked casually.
"Oh, yeah everything's fine, I just wanted to invite you to the play me and Jim are in," Claire said. Jim's face paled and you grinned.
"Jimbo, you didn't tell me you were in a play!" you gushed, your eyes sparkling. He laughed awkwardly.
"Yeah, I am! I'm Romeo," he said. You laughed.
"Oh my god, you guys are doing Romeo and Juliet?" You wheezed, trying to pull yourself together. "Let me guess, Claire's Juliet?"
"Well, yeah, she is-" Your laughter grew and you shook your head, lightly hitting the counter with your hand.
