There were so many trolls, and you weren't sure which ones were on your side and which weren't. True, you had been helping Jim and his friends whenever you could, but that generally didn't involve contact with the trolls. Some made it easy to tell, of course, but many seemed to be interested in protecting themselves, not their home, and that made it that much harder. The first thing you did, as a result, was grab as many people as possible, and try and shelter them from the incoming danger, your heart aching at the sight of so many terrified faces. You shook your head, trying to stay focused as your heart pounded in your chest. You could see that Douxie had also sprung into action, that charming smile back on his face. Ignoring the pleasant warmth in your cheeks at the sight, you scooped up a crying little girl into your arms, shifting until your other arm was free to grab her mother's elbow and drag them away, desperate for shelter, the three of you gasping as debris came flying towards you. You let go of the mother and grabbed your pen, scribbling quick glyphs until bright (f/c) surrounded the three of you, the debris harmlessly bouncing off. The child in your arms looked up in shock an awe, fear forgotten momentarily.
"How did you-" the mother began to ask, but you hushed her quickly.
"Now is not the time. I'll get you to safety," You said, leading them away as more people began to follow, eyeing the magic that oozed off of you warily, too scared to ask questions, and too scared to refuse to follow. You legs, on instinct, started leading them to your bookstore, preparing to put up protective barriers, but your heart fell when you were met with the site of what was your home.
It was up in flames. The smoke made your eyes water from where you stood, almost too stunned to move. You could goblins scrambling around, all chittering with mischievous glints in their eyes. The girl in your arms whimpered and hid her face in your neck, pulling you back into the present, your focus back on to the people you were still leading. You didn't have time for this.
"Time for a plan B," you muttered, scrambling to come up with a solution. Where else could you go? Shaking your head, you picked a direction and ran, the group trailing you with terror in their eyes as you narrowly dodged the fighting, weaving through the city like roaches between floorboards; invisible and refusing to be killed. You didn't stop, didn't falter, not for a moment, even a second, no matter the aching in your arms, no matter the pain in your feet, no matter the screams in the air- you followed the roads out of town, away from the chaos, until the air was still and the loudest sound was the whimpering of the child in your arms. The entire group collapsed, exhausted, the little girl immediately finding her mother, but your work wasn't done yet. This certainly wasn't everyone, and the battle was NOT over yet.
"All of you need to stay here- I have some business to take care of. Once the fighting is over, I will come back to fetch you. For now-" you drew some runes on the ground, watching as the glowed protectively, "this should keep you fairly safe. I will try and send someone back your way with supplies." You took of your sweatshirt, handing it to the mother still trying to soothe her daughter, rolling your shoulders. The group watched as you ran, the wind ripping through your hair as you went, your feet carrying you faster then you ever thought you could move as panic shot through you. This was it. The final battle. No matter how many wars you'd seen, this part never got any easier, especially not with your friends on the front lines. Looking up at the sky, you hoped that your family was granting you luck as the town appeared closer and closer to you.
As you entered, the very first thing that greeted you was that familiar head of black and blue hair, grinning maniacally as he was finally able to freely use his magic for the greater good.
"Don't get too carried away," you teased lightly, trying to catch you breath as he turned to face you. He immediately was at your side, acting casual as ever.
