A/N: Hi, this is a Loki x reader, there are some descriptions, like hair colour, that you can just change if you would like to use yours. Also, all credits to Marvel and whoever the artist is of the cover (I haven't the slightest clue who it is). I did not make the cover.
I sprinted up the hill, my coat flapping around my legs and flashing my heeled boots. I had no trouble running with heels, I had excellent balance and had trained with them every now and again. I saw about four children, probably a year or so older than my human self and cursed under my breath. They seemed to be training and were probably sprinters, so I didn't just tell them to hide "Run! Hide! Get out of the way and don't let them see you!" I yelled urgently.
I was starting to panic, more aware of my lack of access to my gifts than ever before. I knew that I would have to take the pill and release myself from the spell that was cast to protect me, this was about more than just protecting me now. I stopped just far enough away to give me time and avoid those things noticing the people. They hadn't moved at first but once they started hearing the distant sound coming quickly closer, the gurgles and squeals, the alien noises that obviously spoke of danger, they hid, seeming not to trust their speed. "Heimdel," I yelled, "tell them that I love them, especially Loki! Tell him that this wasn't his fault and that he should move on! Make sure everyone understands that it was my fault to not use the pill early enough and that it's too late for me to survive now, all because of my cowardice. I am so sorry" my voice dropped to a whisper and I fought back my tears. Ignoring the children that were staring me in confusion and not a little fear, I closed my eyes and worked to not give in to my emotions.
When I was finally under control, I could feel the revolting creatures close by, heard them too- their screams sending shivers down my spine. Straightening up, I notched three arrows in my bow, and waited for the creatures to round the corner. Again, I felt them before anything else, so my arrows struck the first three as soon as they saw me. I quickly prepared my bow again and fired. I went on like that for about 5 minutes, constantly breaking down the front line, however, I was only one person and there were hundreds of creatures. They relentlessly pushed forward, not seeming to care that they were being slaughtered. There were just so many, they kept coming and I was struggling to hold them off. I grabbed a grenade, yanked out the pin and hurled it toward them, already reaching for another when the first exploded.
The grotesque, misshapen beings were shot into the air or to the sides. Chunks of red-black flesh crashed into those that weren't already injured by the explosion. Before they could recover, I had already thrown the next grenade into the crowd, damaging the property of the humans wasn't my biggest concern at the moment. I only had one other grenade, so I started firing arrows again, desperate to try make a dent in the numbers, yet they kept coming.
I had used up my arrows and was now getting ready to start hand-to-hand combat, knowing it was all going to be over soon. I unbuttoned my coat, to allow more movement, and glanced down at my bare legs, welcoming the feel of the crisp cool air on them. Uncoiling my whip and taking out my sword, I stood there, ready for the battle I had been training for my entire life.
It had come sooner than expected, I was simply sent here to gather information and try figure out exactly when the war would begin. I had tried to warm everyone, but I only had my instincts to tell me that something was wrong, so they brushed it off and let me stay here for longer. I also brushed it off, assuming the spell was affecting my instincts too and carried on trying to gather information. I was still supposed to go back and slowly try get my gifts under control, yet, here I was- fighting the battle we had all been training for singlehandedly and without and magical assistance, only a pill that could unleash my magic so that I might burn accidentally myself alive. I knew I would have to use it, but I was going to wait for the very last moment.
My last thoughts before I went into the battle frenzy was that, if I were to die, the current weather would be perfect for it. The wind was whipping my hair in all directions, creating a golden halo of tangles around my head. The sky was a multitude of swirling greys, as clouds waltzed around in an endless mass of movement. The weather made me feel powerful and I was vaguely aware of the grin spreading across my face before I stepped forward, ready for my destruction but knowing that I was not going down alone, these abominations were going down with me.
