ONCE UPON A TIME, there was a land far far away where a princess was locked in a tower. For as long as she could remember, she lived in the tower. Its walls were all she knew. It was just her, the tower, and Mother Gothel, the woman who raised her. Most days, though, Gothel was away for long periods of time, leaving you all by your lonesome.

There wasn't much to do in the tower. Gothel had daily shores she expected you to do, but those didn't take much time. And you'd already read through all of your books a thousand times over, painted everything you could think of painting, sewed more clothes than you would ever really need in a tower, found more and more elaborate hair styles for your mile-long hair. There just wasn't much to curb your boredom.

Sometimes, all you could do was just stare your only window and imagine what life would be like if you could just leave your tower. But Gothel said the world was dangerous, unsafe for a young woman like you. There were ruffians and thugs and the plague—all things that didn't care about a delicate flower such as yourself. You were to stay in your tower til the end of your days.

It wasn't all bad, though. Sometimes, a man named Andy would come to the tower, stand below your window, and talk to you. He was kind, and charming, and he made you laugh. You didn't really laugh much. But he made you feel a sort of feeling you only heard of in your story books. He made you...happy.

He usually came around noon, riding up to your tower on a white stallion, calling out for you to come to him. And you'd perch yourself on your window sill, gaze down at him, and shout your greeting back. You'd talk about anything with Andy. He would talk about his day, which was far more interesting than yours. And you'd tell him what you'd been doing. Then, sometimes, he'd ask you to sing for him, saying that your voice was more beautiful than any other woman's in the entire kingdom. You didn't know how big the kingdom was, but the compliment always made heat rush to your face, and you'd hide a giggle by your hand.

He was late today. Worry bubbled in your chest as you stared out your window, looking for the white stallion on the horizon, disappointment filling you as you realized that he might not be coming. Had he grown bored of you? Had he found a woman who he wasn't so far from? Had he found a woman with a more beautiful voice than yours?

The day soon turned to night before you got any sort of hint that he was coming. As the stars twinkled down on the vast forest, you finally saw the white stallion riding up to the tower.

"Y/N!" he called. "Let down your hair!"

You came up to the window, lowering your hair. He grabbed onto it, slowly scaling it until he reached the window. He pulled himself into the window, smiling at you as you saw each other's faces for the first time.

"More beautiful than I could have ever dreamed," he said.

"You're late," you said, trying to show how upset you were rather than buckle at his compliments. "I was worried, Andy."

"I know. And I'm so sorry. But, I had business to attend to," he said. "The woman who...raised you, you know she's not your mother, right?"

"She's not?"

"No, she took you from your mother and father as punishment for stealing from her. She was going to keep you here forever, but I helped your parent's find her and take her away."

"I don't understand?" you asked, your brows furrowing together. What was he saying? What did he mean, that she was taken away?

"You're free."

"I can...leave? But the world out there...It's dangerous. Gothel said so."

He smiled softly, taking your hands in his. "I'll protect you from the worst dangers that exist. I can promise you that."

"You'll say by my side?"

"Now and forevermore, if you'll let me."

You stared up at him, tears welling up in your eyes. He saved you. He got you your freedom. Now, you could go anywhere, see everything. You weren't trapped any longer. And he, he said he would be with you through it all. You'd be a fool to not take it.

"I would be honored."

"Then let's go, my love. There's a whole world out there that I can't wait to show you."

"And I wouldn't want to see it with anyone else."

And so, YOU LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
