"Honey, I'm home! And like always, I'm starving!" Emmanuel yelled.
I was still in the kitchen and Emmanuel's footsteps were louder and louder when he got more closer. He arrived at the kitchen and kissed his wife. He kept talking to her like I wasn't even there, but then he looked at me straight in my eye.
"Ann, who's this little man?" Emmanuel asked nicely. Emmanuel was tall and I could say he was pretty strict by looking at his face. He crossed his arms and looked at his wife waiting for an answer.
"Sorry I didn't introduce you, he's Stefan Vlophalk, right, did I said it correctly?" Ann said.
"Yes." I nodded.
"Nice to meet you. And where are you from?" Emmanuel asked.
When I was going to speak, Ann sat in front of him on one of the chairs of the dining room.
"That's the problem. I found him on the streets, it looks like his parents abandoned him. I just couldn't let him on that garbage can. He was at Lenny's Bakery." Ann said explaining Emmanuel the situation. While I was sitting Ann kept talking with Emmanuel about me and how to deal with the situation. Once in a while, he glanced at me and gave me a smile
"Don't worry pal. Feel just like home, you're very welcome." Emmanuel said shaking my hand softly.
"Thank you." I said and gave him a smile.
"Is Fred home?" Emmanuel asked.
Ann looked at him. Believe it or not, I felt that I was on a psychic territory. By the look Ann gave Emmanuel it was like they were talking without their mouths.
"How did Fred take this?" Emmanuel asked breaking the long and awkward silence.
Once again Ann looked at Emmanuel. Both looked at me. I felt the urge of saying "Hi" but I guess that wasn't good manners
"He didn't take it very well. He raised his voice to me, and not just to me, to Stefan too. I tried to take control over the situation, but it was useless." Ann said while she was washing the dishes.
"I'm going to talk to him. Let's see if I can make him think and see reason." Emmanuel said and he left the kitchen.
When Ann finished washing the dishes she sat in front of me. She looked at me curiously, I guess she wanted to know more about me and I completely get her, she brought a stranger to her house. She even has the right to ask me how many times I go to the bathroom. That would be awkward...
"So Stefan now that we have a little time to talk more, you can tell me about yourself." Ann said while she was folding some towels on her lap.
"What do you want to know exactly?" I asked because I didn't want my mouth talking about things I wasn't suppose to. I can't imagine the horror of saying anything about Eye-Lock or even worst, How many times I use the bathroom!!!
"Tell me about yourself. What do you like more about yourself?" Ann asked curiously.
That's a hard one. What do I like most about myself? Gosh! I wish I could skip that. I like my abs, I like my eyes and even my waist! I've to admit in there I'm gorgeous. Oh... I sounded like a diva in there.
"Well, I like my personality. I'm shy and that's one thing that doesn't let me you know have friends." I said and gave her a smile.
"That's no big of a deal, everyone goes through that stage of fear. Even myself but I got out as soon as possible. I wanted to be an actress on my theater club." Ann said looking through her mind for past memories.
"And how did you made it?" I asked her. I really didn't wanted to talk about myself so I took the shortcut she granted me.
"I took the big step. Act in front of the whole school." She said with effervescent joy.
I looked at her while she told me the play she acted on. She looked like she wanted to talk about this since a long time ago. She explained every little tiny detail of the play.
"Stefan. What about your parents?" Ann asked.
Did she really needed to ask me that? The thought of lying about my parents burned my heart and chest. It wasn't enough with the information I gave you a few hours ago?
"What about them?" I asked even though I knew what she wanted for an answer.
"Well, everything you knew about them. If you're ok with it of course." Ann said.
"We were a happy family. But something broke us apart. One guy came and started to put lies in my parents head until he put me in a big sleep and drew me on the streets." I said trying to explain the real problem with something more believable.
"I'm sorry." Ann said and she hold my hand.
I gave her a smile.
"I'm so sorry for this, I don't like to be the center of attention." I said begging her pardon.
"Nah, don't worry, no big deal, and by the way is September, I'm going to take the liberty to put you on Fred's school." Ann said.
"September? Don't you mean Feastember?" I said confused.
She looked at me, I can say she said on her mind "What the hell is wrong with this child" but instead she gave me a smile.
"Feastember? I'm pretty sure is September. If it was a joke then it's a good one." Ann said laughing weakly.
I didn't make any kind of joke, even though if it was a joke it wasn't funny, it would be the worst joke on the history of jokes. But I guess and I'm probably sure humans have different names on their months.
Then I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Emmanuel came and he had an angry expression. He looked like he wanted to shoot at something. I kept my distance.
