"Jacob, oh my gosh!!" I barely managed to spin around in time to catch Kelsey mid-jump. I laughed at her antics, setting her down gently. She punched my shoulder, "Geez, Kels.""I can't believe you had a game and no one told me! I confronted my dad about it last night and he said it was better that I wasn't there because I would've balled like a baby if something happened which he isn't exactly wrong about but still! My dad said you did awesome and the team overall did good, except for a few distracted people. Were your parents there?"
She had a lot to say for eight in the morning.
I shook my head, "I didn't tell them; I didn't want them to worry in case something did happen."
She nodded, smiling brightly, "that's understandable. Now, tell me all the highlights, my dad refused to talk to me after I got on his nerves with a bunch of questions." I chuckled, that would be something she would do.
"Cameron did really good and scored a nice corner kick in the first half. Walker scored in the second half and Jonah put up a nice fight with the Jaguars' offense."
Kelsey took my hand in her's and we started walking down the hallway together. "Dad said you did really well too; you had to shake three Jaguars which is hard to do. Oh! Did the Jaguar's coach ever come up to you?" Why would their coach come up to me? I shook my head, shooting her a confused look.
"He said he recognized you, well, he recognized the way you played. Turns out, he's a big playoffs fan and remembered watching you clear as day on the Michigan team. My dad talked to him a bit about you too, all good things don't worry."
I didn't know what to say. I was never the all-star playing like Fisher back home, so he must have mistaken me for him. "That was over a year ago, I doubt it was me he remembers. Fisher was the best one on the team, he kept everyone motivated and had wicked precision when it came to eye and ball coordination."
Kelsey shook her head, "no, Jacob. He strictly said Michigan's co-captain aka Jacob Green, not Fisher King. I mean, my dad showed me tapes of y'all on the Blue Devil's Instagram page for Gull Lake high school. You were really good, one of the best I've ever seen- my dad thought so too." I frowned, "when did he show you this?" She looked up in thought, "um, maybe three weeks ago?"
I stopped abruptly, trying to process everything I heard. There were tapes of my team. My best friends and I playing soccer, there were tapes. I could watch them, I- I could see us again. The team I won championships with, the friends I spent my life with, I could see it all again with a click of a button.
Fisher, Ravi, Carter, Alejandro, everyone, I could see them all. Coach Trey... w-would he have been filming the video or would he be in it shouting from the sidelines? Did it just show our games or practices?
I stared directly at Kelsey a little shaken, "s-so you watched us from over a year ago on their page?" She nodded slowly, trying to figure out where I was going with this realization. Heck, I didn't even know where I was going, but I knew I wanted to see the page... to see us one last time.
"Jacob, what are you thinking?" She had taken hold of both my hands by now, looking at me with worried eyes. I never seemed to have the best reaction when my team was brought up, but this time, I wasn't going to lash out or explode. "I w-want to watch the videos," my quiet voice wavered.
I was having a hard time concealing my emotions from the overwhelming news. She sighed and pulled me into a hug, one that took me a minute to register before I wrapped my arms around her and buried my head in her shoulder.
