Chapter 5

An hour later, the canines were laying on a patch of untouched sand by the water, panting. Luckily, Loki hadn't been needed since he had arrived to the beach earlier. Some beach-goers had casted them glances as they walked into the cool liquid.

At least four people in the next five minutes had reported that they were runaway dogs and shouldn't be on the beach.

Maxi was walking out of the tower to switch places with Deano who was at the North side when a woman came up to him, "There are two dogs down there," she pointed to the canines, "And they don't have any owners as far as I can see," she said, making Maxi nod, "Well, one of them we own, not quite sure about the other, unless one of the guys just decided to get a dog," he chuckled as the woman smiled. She walked off after Maxi said he'll keep an eye out in case they cause any trouble. The lifeguard decided to check on the two.

He kneeled next to Loki, "Who's your friend?" He asked as if the wolfdog could reply. The canine stood up and stretched before looking at Maxi, head tilting.

"Take him to the tower, Loki, Deano will take a look at him," he said, standing up again and walking towards the North.

Loki's pov:
I watched as Maxi walked off.
"Come on then," I said, glancing at Ares before striding towards the tower. After a few moments, I heard the Doberman trot up beside me.
"Deano?" Ares questioned.
"You'll see," I replied as I trotted up the steps and into to tower as the door was opened.
It was Deano and Jake in the tower.
I had only seen Jake once or twice, making me not trust him a whole lot, but if the other lifeguards did then I trust their judgement.

We walked up to them and I sat next to the two swivel chairs. The Doberman was more cautious but sat behind me nonetheless.

"Who's this?" Deano mumbled, making Jake glance down.

Deano then reached down to Ares's neck to peer at the tag hanging on the collar. "Ares, nice name," he smiled before flipping the tag around, brow arching. I looked between him and Ares.
