He was standing face to face with the cursed one. He just fought alongside the cursed one.

Argh. This is just great. I'm being superstitious. Just like the people I left for the same reason.

"Ehem.." He coughed. Getting up and trying to regain some dignity. "I'm Maddox. Who are you?"

"I don't have a name. I was unnamed by my clan." The Denet replied

"Oh wow, that's harsh... How bout I just call you Denet.... Well since you're a Denet and you don't have a name..."

"That's alright. Do you have a place to go?"

"No. I just left my people. I decided to walk around. See where fate leads me. I heard you've been banished. You wanna join me?"

"Sure." Denet replied, brightening at the prospect of having someone who doesn't reject him "aren't you bothered to be seen walking with the cursed one?"

"Hell no... You don't seem cursed to me. Those are all superstitions. C'mon let's keep moving." Maddox replied while leading the way.

"So ... You're specialized in this huh?" Mike asked Allison

"Depends on what your 'this' is.... I'm a crime fighter" She replied

"You should have stuck to petty thrives and armed robbers.” Mike said coyly.

"You think? What’s your friend?" She asked gesturing to Dax.

"An alien... Came to earth by mistake" Mike said, noticing Dax's sullen look  "Hey Dax ... What's up with you?"

"I was wondering.... Back at home, we've been living in harmony with the Ordons. Why the new order to wipe us out? What happened to their old master? "

"How do we find out?" Allison asked after Mike had explained how him and Dax met.

"I don't know yet. For someone to control the Ordons, he has to be higher than them. More powerful. He might have other species at his control. He might send more after me if the Ordons fail to return"

"We'll have to wait and see. Let's head home." Mike replied

"Catch you guys later" Allison called out

They waved at her before she drove away in a sleek black car that drove automatically to her side.

"You like her, don't you?" Dax asked Mike, smiling slyly

"No I don't.... Okay maybe i do.... Hey c'mon aliens don't tease. We have work to do"

Dax laughed out loud. Mike smiled too. This was the first time the alien laughed since his arrival on Earth.

"What are those for?" Denet asked Maddox gesturing to the bag filled with Quaf metal.

"It just came to me as an idea. I want to try and forge another weapon from it. I'm getting tired with this of jorl"

"Oh.... I think I know who can help us with the forging. The guardians. They stay at the peak of Mount. Carod. They're friendly to me, I think I can ask for that favor"

"Great... Which way is it?"

"I don't know.... Wait let me think" Denet said, his face strong in concentration. Then he murmured "As the sun rises.."

"That should be West...We just have to wait for a few more hours. In the meantime, i think we should just rest"

They laid down facing up, counting the Stars and thinking.

After a few hours, they could see the sun rising. They both got up, and started walking. and talking. Maddox could not see any reason why they'd call this being cursed. He didn't want to approach the subject. Afraid of breaking this relaxed atmosphere.

Once or twice, they met a couple of species. Some villages. They passed a large Quaf soldier's camp.

By mid day, the could see the tip of Mount. Carod. It was an impressive sight. Standing at about 20,000 metres, Carod was made up of three separate mountains.

It is believed that the top of the mountain was where the first form of life appeared. Although nobody knows if it is true.

Standing at the foot of the mountain was an old Xeran. His eyes twinkled with intelligence as he looked at the approaching Maddox and Denet.

They had not noticed him yet. He could see they got along well. He felt happy for the young Denet, knowing all his life had been lonely.

When they got to the foot of the mountain, Denet said, "I can feel a guardian around...."

"Here?? No one's here. Except that Xeran."

Denet looked at the Xeran. There was an odd sensation around him. Something was weird.

The Xeran wobbled over to them and said, "The one cursed with the gods of violence and war. Your people believed you were bad luck. The said you were an harbinger of war and chaos."

Denet looked at this Xeran, his eyes glowed bright green. Although he didn't change visibly, his arm muscles tightened as he gazed at the Xeran.

"Oh i see you have not told your Brai friend here the reason you were banished... Let me"

"Who are you?" Maddox asked, speaking for the first time.

"There's no need to know that yet. But what you should know is what I'm about to tell you." On saying that, the Xeran grew taller and broader. White hair extended from his bald head. Gold bands shone from his forearms and a gold staff appeared.

Standing before them, was a mighty guardian. Maddox gasped. Denet knelt on one knee.

When Maddox saw Denet, he knelt too.

"Rise. Trouble has come. Come with me." He led them to a side of the mountain. Then placed the orb on his staff to a mountain wall. Suddenly, a hollow tunnel opened up and they entered.

"There is trouble. Our alpha has plans of uniting all worlds....I don't know how he plans on achieving that. But i know there'll be severe consequences."

The guardian were the apex species. Basically immortal. They were gods. Looked highly upon by the other species.

"Someone has to stop him and i see potential in you and your Brai friend. That's why I'm going to help you."

They had gotten to a caved out hollow room. The guardian collected the Quaf metal from Maddox and produced a bright blue flame from his hands.

The metals melted and floated in mid air. He brought a little object from his hand and cut his palm and sprinkled few drops of golden blood on the molten metal.

Maddox watched in fascination as the molten solid changed color from grey to gold.

Denet also watched as the magma took shape. It formed a very large double edged axe. When it became fully solid and rested gently on the ground, Denet walked to it and picked it up.

Using one sharp end, he sliced his forearm. Drawing his blood and infusing some part of the god of violence into the axe. When he was done, the axe had  some black inscription and ridges etched into the gold.

The guardian wasn't much surprised at what Denet just did. He picked up the axe, walked up to Maddox whose mouth was slacking open and gave him the axe.

When Maddox touched the axe, he felt a kind of electric current fizzle through his fingers before feeling warmth.

Then pain. The type of pain that he had never felt before. That was the last thing he felt before he blacked out.
