Two Faced

Last night I dreamt of you

Wearing two different faces

Each time my gut begged me to run

But the floor dragged my feet down

Each time I screamed as loud as I could

But no sound escaped from my throat

Your second set of eyes grew closer

And your hands stretched out to end the hunt

I reached for the doors leading outside

Where my family laughed and chatted

About the newest topic of their conversation

But your large thick hands grabbed me

Arms hauling me away from my freedom

Forearms crushing my neck as I try to scream

My flailing hands throw every item in my reach

Tissue boxes trampling out of reach of the doors

Water spotted glasses silently shattering

No matter how hard my fingernails dig

You do not bleed

You cannot bleed

But by some stroke of luck I hit the glass doors

Catching the attention of my family

The sliding of the doors sends relief through my veins

However my flowing blood runs still

Because standing in the doorway is your first face

Any noise my kicking feet

My gasping lungs

Or frantic cries wish to make

Will only be heard by you and your second set of ears

When I woke up from my nightmare

My hands were tense and stiff

My throat was raspy and ached

My legs were weak and wobbly

As if I had been running from you all night

From across the room you smiled

Like you knew about my dream

Like you had been there yourself
