Hang in There

Future me, you either hate me
Or we've come to a compromise.
Hopefully whenever you're on your phone,
Scrolling through bad poetry,
You see this again.
By now, I hope we sort of have facial hair,
Though it's not necessary.
Just stop and breathe for a few moments,
Don't think about what's happening.
You overthink everything in a panic,
Analyzing the flaws in your own reflection.
Things get rough and pretty soon,
I know the “special day” is coming up.
So just breathe and relax,
Think happy thoughts and live.
Because one day, we'll be old and dying,
Regretting things we missed.
Not trying out for theatre even though I loved it,
Not getting help when I needed it,
Not trying to defend myself because I thought I sounded insane.
Simply not doing anything because I was scared.
Life is short and you can take little steps if it helps.
Climb that tree, fight for what you believe in,
Take that aircraft maintenance class,
Do the audition and nail that role,
If it doesn't work out?
Improve because you're no rug,
Trying to vacuum out any stains or flaws.
Like the boys always said,
You think and you're dead.
Hang in there fighter pilot.
