Eddie's POV:
"You sure you want to do this? I'm not rushing you? This is a big thing meeting my team-" I can't help but fuss to Peter as we stand outside the pub where my team at the 118 are gathering for a couples night. I decided that it was finally time to let everyone find out about and meet Peter as no-one there knows I'm bisexual let alone dating.
"Eddie," He touches my arm lightly, speaking softly, "Let's do this."
It's all the encouragement I need to take his hand and step inside, scouring the place for everyone. Apparently Maddie and Chimney are already up on stage singing their hearts out which Buck has told me is nothing unusual when they're here. It's the waving hand that gets me to notice where everyone else is already sat. Of course Peter and I are running late, we're always late.
Peter's raised eyebrows make me snap my mouth closed again before I can check with him he's really okay so I just squeeze his hand and lead him over to the others. They're all squashed into a booth, Evan and his girlfriend Taylor in the middle. Hen is sat to the other side of Taylor with her wife Karen on one of the chairs. Bobby and Athena have taken the chair option too which leaves open two more chairs or a chance to squeeze in with Hen, Taylor and Buck. The chairs would be the sensible option but I want an excuse to have Peter as close to me as possible so I slide into the booth next to Buck and gently tug Peter with me.
"Everyone, this is Peter. Peter, this is everyone." I introduce them and Hen lets out an offended sound because it's Hen and she's fun and oh man she's going to tease the ever-loving fuck out of me next shift.
"The names Hen, not everyone." Hen properly introduces herself as I sling an arm over Peter's shoulder, pulling him as close to me as socially acceptable but Peter gets the hint and puts a leg over mine, scooting closer to me as he greets Hen. Everyone is introducing themselves to him properly as Maddie and Chimney reappear with four drinks. Maddie puts a beer in front of me and a cider in front of Peter before taking her own drink from her probably soon to be fiancé.
"Buckley?" Peter questions in his usual soft voice.
"My older sister." Evan leans over me and the two strike up easy conversation, everyone just fitting together so perfectly and god I should have introduced Peter earlier than tonight. He's perfect for the team and if Christopher loves him then I know everyone here will too.
"So, what do you do when you're not at home?" Chimney steals Peter's attention away from the animated one he's having with Evan about superheroes and the team quietens down a little because they definitely want to know everything they can about my mysterious and secret boyfriend.
"I'm a barista part time and the other half of the time I work in the animal clinic actually not that far from the 118 fire house." He tells them and suddenly there's a chorus of questions about both jobs and just from the way Peter suddenly grips my thigh I know he's getting a little overwhelmed. My hand that was around his waist softly traces up his back to begin carding gently through his messy caramel locks and it does the trick as his grip slowly starts to loosen until all the sudden tension is his body dissipates and he's sinking further into my embrace.
----------------
The barks echo around the firehouse first before the smell of freshly brewed coffee wafts its way up to the loft area and I know immediately Peter's here. We all look up, especially when a very happy and bouncy Border Collie comes careering up the stairs, followed by a careful Peter whose hands are full with two trays of hot coffee. Buck helps Peter out as he's closest and they put the table on the coffee, handing drinks out to those per names on the cups until Peter's left holding two. He finds my gaze, strolling over and plopping himself on my lap before handing me my coffee and taking a swig of his own.
"Hey, Henley!" He calls to the puppy, using a stern who is bouncing around Bobby's feet as our captain is cooking, "Come sit!" and surprisingly the puppy races over to lay by our feet. It doesn't last long as Buck starts fussing over the dear pup and begging Bobby for a station dog as other stations have them. I brush it all off, putting mine and Peter's drinks down before stealing him away. Not really sure where to go I pull him into one of the supply closets and as soon as the door is firmly shut behind us I'm shoving him against a wall with a rushed and needy kiss to his lips.
