Nex's pov:

Throughout school, Scarlett and I didn't interact at all. You would've never known that we were going out on a date. I'm pretty sure that if I said that to anyone at school, no one would believe me.

But there was one difference. On the rare occasions that we looked at each other, she wasn't looking back at me with distaste. There was no hint of hatred. Because there wasn't any.

Sometimes I would catch her glancing at me and vice versa. Whenever that happened, we would smile a little at each other. Just enough for us to acknowledge the other without anyone catching on.

Except for Aaron. He caught on very quickly.

I had told him about what had gone one while he was on vacation. The only thing I hadn't mentioned was that she had asked me out. And that I had agreed to it, of course.

Scarlett and I spoke often at night. So once I had figured out when the date would take place, I told her during a call.

"So friday at 8?," she asked, making sure she heard correctly.

"Yup. But I don't have a car and I want it to be a surprise."

"Can you drive?"

"I've got my license and everything."

"Then I could pick you up and you could drive us there."

"That would be perfect," I said.

"Then, what should I wear?"

"I'd say just comfortable."

"I don't know what that means."

"Like...I'm probably going to wear comfortable pants and sneakers. Definitely wear sneakers."

"Okay so, casual?"

"Yeah, that's the word. My bad."

"So we have one more day until we're doing this," she said. I knew that she was smiling on the other side of the phone.

"Yup. So what happens if this goes well?," I asked.

"I'm not sure. We do it again?"

I was going to answer her but I got distracted. "Oh! Did I tell you I started my new job yesterday?"

"No, where are you working?"

"I'm doing soccer training for younger kids. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It pays good."

"I didn't know you played soccer!"

"Yeah. I don't play for the school team or anything. But I'm good at it."

"Why didn't you try out?"

"Eh I guess I just wanted to play for fun. Once you get involved with varsity and stuff, the intensity gets high."

"I get that. I used to do gymnastics."

"Really?"

"Yeah, but I quit. My parents wanted me to be on the international level but I just wanted to have fun."

"Maybe you could start up again. Just for fun this time," I suggested.

"Maybe someday. Who knows."

"You're not a person that hates ice cream...right?"

"Of course not. I love ice cream...Are you taking me for ice cream?"

"What makes you think that? I don't know what you're referring to."

I could hear laughing as if she was trying to cover it.
