ILL FIND YOU AGAIN
ρ𝘳ꪮlogue
" Its for the best. "

River silently sits in her car with the two front windows rolled down, she sits parked in an empty parking lot at outside of her dance studio that she does ballet at when she's not at football practice. her left arm rests on the open window, a single cigarette resting in between her fingers. no one sits in the car with her, waiting for her boyfriend Simon Kalivoda to meet her there, he having to talk to her about something. She slowly leans her head back, softly shutting her eyes; exhausted from the long day she's had. Hearing the passenger side door open then close right after, she lifts her head to see Simon sitting next to her looking out the front window before turning towards her.

"I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be at football practice right now." Simon says to his girlfriend, looking her up and down; towards her hand with the cigarette she's holding

"Yeah, I'm supposed to be there, but I needed to let some emotion out so i chose dance." River replies

"So that's why you're wearing your ballet clothes? Also, I'm pretty sure your coach doesn't like you skipping practice."

"Missing one day of practice won't do me any harm." She exclaims. She flicks the cigarette out of her hands, knowing Simon isn't a fan of her smoking; even though it helps her cope with her problems. "So, what's up? You said you wanted to talk."

"Riv." he uses her nickname instead of her full name, something only her friends and brother call her. "We've been dating for two years, maybe a little more, right?"

She slowly nods in confusion not knowing where this conversation is heading.

"Before I say what I need to say, and what I came here to say; I just want you to know that I love you, and I always will no matter what happens between the two of us."

Finally catching on to what Simon wanted to tell her, she slowly turns away from him, her gaze looking out the window; looking at all the cars drive past the parking lot they're seated in. Feeling tears already begin to from in her eyes, she blinks multiple times not wanting Simon to see her cry before he can even finish what he was here to say; not wanting to show him what emotions she's feeling.

"Baby, look at me, please." Simon says softly his voice cracking in between the words. Using two fingers, he softly pulls her chin towards him, making them look each other in the eyes again, both the couple with tears in their eyes.

"Why? What did i do?" River says trying to stop her voice from breaking. "If it's me smoking, i'll stop. If you want me to quit football, I will; I'll do cheer instead-"

"River, stop." he cuts her off calmly "Its not that, that's not the reason." he lets out a small sigh. "I know you already know, but... I have to break up with you." he finally says it, making the tears River were holding in finally fall down her cheeks

"Why? If it's not those things, then what's the reason?"

"Us... Me and you dating is so- so difficult, it's like a challenge; like we're not even in love."

"How can you even say that?"

"Our relationship is like a test in school that you're so positive that you're going to pass, but when you get the test back you've failed it." Simon makes a horrible comparison, still being able to get the point across. There's just things that will never work out between the two of us."

"Like what?" River slightly tilts her head, leaning it back on her seat; no longer looking at him

"We need to compromise on things, but whenever we try to it just turns into this huge fight that doesn't end, or if it does it just ends in sex; which isn't a good relationship." he pauses himself for a moment, waiting to see if River has something to say, but once she doesn't he continues. "River, I want to think that we're meant for each other, but you always want me to be honest with you; so this is me being honest. I don't think we are meant for each other, being in a healthy relationship should never be this hard. Being with you is just too difficult."

"Well, we can change. We can change for each other, we've done it before, so we can do it again. Simple."

"We've tried that before and it obviously didn't work, we're back right where we started. If anything us trying to change for each other had made our relationship more toxic and manipulative." Simon says softly whipping Rivers cheeks, using his thumb to get rid of the tears. He's always hated to see her cry, feeling guilty and on the verge of tears knowing he's the reason she's crying.

Neither Simon nor River says anything more; the only noise they hear is River trying to stop herself from crying, trying to make no noise by covering her mouth. Hearing her cries, Simon let's his tears take the best of him, no longer caring to hide his emotions like he had planned on doing.

"Come here." Simon whispers to River

Simon softly grabs on to Rivers hand, pulling it away from her face before pulling her into his chest, forcing her into a small hug only causing her to break down even more. He carefully runs his hands through her hair, feeling her hands grip onto the back of his hoodie he's wearing. Simon leans down placing a small kiss on to the top of her head trying to hide the fact he's also crying; already knowing this would've been the outcome of him breaking up with River, not realizing how hard it actually is to do,

"It's for the best." Simon whispers into Rivers ear, softly pulling her face away from his shoulder. She carefully moved all her hair out of her face, pushing it behind her ears. Simon gives her a small broken hearted smile before leaning down to place a small kiss onto her lips; choosing to leave them connected for a long moment before he pulling away from her.

Simon finally lets go of River, pushing her car door open, and stepping out of it leaving her there alone and heartbroken by herself in an empty parking lot. Her vision blurry from her tears, she looks out through her mirror watching Simon walk away from her and their relationship, him not thinking twice to turn around and change what he had just done; his mind already made up meaning he won't turn around.

Once he was out of her view she slowly looks back ahead of herself, struggling to breathe from how much she had cried. Letting out a yell, she hits her steering wheel multiple times before dropping her head down onto it, hiding her face, muffling her cries not wanting to hear how pathetic she looks or sounds.

The one person who had ever truly loved or cared for her, left. Leaving her alone and heartbroken not knowing what to do with herself, a part of herself and asking away when he did.

He loves her and he wants her, that's why he's letting her go. He loves her but they both need time to grow on their own. And if the world was kind he could stay with her. It pains him to think of a guy who gets to be with her, but he'll always love her. And it's better off that way.

And it's better off that way
