Chapter VII

An isolated rabbit is always in danger

The world we live in is dangerous. And we must learn to defend ourselves against those who want to harm us. But do we really know who has bad intentions ? Our neighbors ? Our teachers, our friends ?... Yes, the world we live in is scary. And it's even more terrifying if we have to face it alone.

Despite Hugh's warning, Dakota struggled to approach Mei. He wanted to talk to her, hear her laugh, and see her angelic smile; which immediately alerted Hugh, which made him a little more possessive and concerned over time, without the young girl even noticing it. But he knew other clingy guys would try to steal her heart. So he decided, from that day on, to protect her, even though he's not sure how she feels for him.

Friday morning.

"Ughhh..." Haruna growls, dragging her feet behind Touko. The student turns around raising one of her eyebrows.

"What is happening to you ?" she asks calmly.

"I wanna go home to finish my fav' show ! I wanna know the end so badly !" complains Haruna, who makes a face so bored and angry that it becomes scary, as some students are rushing up the stairs, not wanting to cross her path. The brunette chuckles, visibly amused by the scene.

"Well no luck, because you have 2 hours of math this afternoon and therefore you end the lessons at 5:45 pm." Cheren intervenes with a mocking tone. Haruna stares at the bespectacled student with a murderous gaze.

"H-huh...ah, gtg !" he says as he quickly walks to his classroom, scared, while his friend giggles even more. Haruna shakes her head and remembers something.

"By the way, I hope Mei and Hugh don't show up late" says she while looking at her friend.

"Don't worry, we have english lesson, they will not be in big trouble with this kind of teacher."

Class has already started and after ten minutes late, Hugh and Mei finally arrive, apologizing to the teacher; no problem.

"Told you" Touko whispers to her friend. She then turns to Mei.

"Why were you late this time ? Does it involve Hugh~?"

"Oh no, that's cuz we fell on Troy and Randy !" answers the younger one with a smile.

"Mhm..." Touko stays silent and doesn't dare to insist, uncertain about her friend's insouciance.

Mei POV

Blurp...I don't feel so good.. I direct my gaze to the window, then to the top of the board to try and check the time, as my eyes barely stay open. My eyelids are heavy and I feel that my head is spinning.

"Thirteen minutes left, seriously ?.." I whisper quietly, frustrated, feeling even worse. So I start a movement to take my pen but awkwardly moves my arm dropping my notebook, which creates a few glances and whispers. And shit.

Touko POV

Mh ? What is their problem, fixing our table again, they gossip or what ?

"Ignore them Mei, they ju-" I quickly stop talking as I notice her pale face.

"Are you okay ? qwq" Mei slowly turns her head to look at me and nods. I roll my eyes.

"Did you eat this morning ?" I ask, a bit worried.

"Didn't have tiiiime..." she says, putting her face on the cold matter of her desk. I sigh. Bravo, I'm worried now ! I raise my hand to ask permission to accompany Mei out of this noisy classroom. And as expected, the teacher granted me this permission. I can see a concerned Hugh out of the corner of my eye.
