Miranda walked slowly down the hallway of Seattle Grace strutting her stuff because she was back. She had been back for almost four months but Richard had her shadowing him because she had been out of practice and he was still watching her like she was going to break. But she was finally feeling like her old self but better and that made her feel great. Miranda was brought out of her thoughts by the loud whispering of her new residents.
"Do you all have something you would like to say?" Miranda asked sternly as she turned on her heels swiftly.
The residents stopped suddenly and stared at her in fear before one of them spoke, "We were just wondering which one of us would get to scrub into your surgery," the resident rattled off quickly.
"Whoever is able to diagnose why the patient is in need of surgery correctly will get the opportunity," Miranda informed before giving them instructions on what to do for her patients.
Miranda walked into Richard's office, "Ready for your first solo surgery," he said while still looking at the documents in front of him.
Miranda shrugged nonchalantly, "this isn't my first solo surgery, it's just the first one you're letting me do alone since I've come back to work," Miranda said.
"So why are you in here instead of prepping for surgery," Richard said calmly.
"Maybe I'm a little nervous but I'm still confident in my abilities," Miranda declared.
"Yes and you will do great," Richard told her.
Miranda went into surgery and said a prayer before beginning like she always did, when she looked over at the anesthesiologist, it was Ben smiling from ear to ear under his mask and he winked at her. She smiled and continued with her surgery then she let her resident close. As Miranda walked out of the O.R feeling exhilarated because the surgery was successful, she was stopped by one of the new doctors from the merger.
"Dr. Bailey, that was an impressive surgery," Dr. Brady complimented.
"Well thank you, I appreciate the compliment," Miranda said as she started to walk away.
"Maybe we can go for a drink and dinner tonight if you have time," he asked.
Miranda stopped and looked at the caramel skinned man. He was short but still taller than her with broad shoulders that showed he worked out. Miranda wasn't looking for a relationship and to be honest she felt like she was in one with Ben though they said they weren't. Dr. Brady was handsome but not her type but if it was just dinner and conversation she didn't mind.
"Sure I get off at 7pm and I'll meet you over at Joe's," Miranda replied.
"Great, and maybe we can do a surgery together sometime," Dr. Brady said.
Ben came out of the O.R looking for Miranda because he had a surprise for her when she went home, but he just wanted to congratulate her first solo surgery after being gone for months before he had to go into his next surgery. He looked down the hallway and saw his colleague Dr. Malik Brady talking and smiling at Miranda. He knew what that was because he'd seen him do it plenty of times with other doctors and nurses, he was just trying to get laid.
He felt himself getting upset and jealous at the sight of another man talking to Miranda. In that moment he knew that his love for her was much more than platonic. Hell, he'd known it all along but he was just afraid. Plus they lived more like husband and wife than they did roommates, the only thing they didn't do was have sex.
Ben walked over to Miranda and Malik, "Good afternoon," Ben said interrupting their short conversation.
"Hey Ben," Miranda said enthusiastically making Ben smile and he intentionally kissed her cheek then looking nonchalantly at Malik.
