Blinding city lights and the dark night sky, the world almost seemed black and white. The recent nights started to look more and more identical, the one changing factor being your hope decreasing every time you took this walk to your favorite club after coming home to an empty apartment just minutes before.

You don't even bother to call and check on where he is, because recent discoveries have led you to believe that he was probably not working late, but if anything, working on another girl. The habit of living like you have no care in the world every night was something you only took up to make what would seem to be an inevitable upcoming breakup a lot easier. You're just preparing yourself for what's next to come.

As cars pass by, the life of the city certainly does not show you any mercy as you clutch your knee-length peacoat closer to your body, the silk black dress underneath not providing much additional warmth in the first place as the clacks of your heels are almost inaudible.

You finally arrive at the club, the inside of it beaming with all different sorts of colors and sounds, almost opposite of what seemed to be a monochrome night just outside. Flirting happening at the bar, grinding on the dance floor, it was all just fun and games. Just one big, fun game.

It wasn't the usual crowd, since it was a Friday night. You wondered what would happen if you saw your boyfriend at the same club you were at. Would he think you were there for the same reason you thought he would be there? The thought gave you a little laugh. How a story could differ so drastically just based on perspective.

You manage to shuffle your way through crowds and squeeze into a seat at the bar. The lively atmosphere and upbeat music already putting you at ease as you order a vodka martini to start off the sad night. Though they would usually start off with carefreeness and bliss, it would typically end pondering the biggest questions in your life until you were asked to leave by 3 am.

As the bartender whips up your drink, you take off your black coat, placing it on your lap as you take a quick scan around the club, taking note of everything and everyone. Sure, what you were about to do that night was reckless and carefree, but for all you knew, at this point, you had nothing to lose. If he really was cheating on you, you'd have nothing left. I mean, what else can explain finding articles of clothing in your bedroom that clearly did not belong to you other than cheating?

You had every intention of ending it, you just wanted to catch him in the act. Hell, even make him feel guilty for it. You just needed something to push you over the edge, to make you have no doubts or hesitation. But what would it take for that to happen? If anything, this sad cycle could continue for months and all you would be able to do is sit idle, unsure. He was everything you had left. Part of you didn't want to believe any of this, which could be why getting intoxicated makes everything feel ok, even if it's just a temporary fix.

You sadly stare at the vodka martini that has just been placed in front of you with empty eyes, the reality and depression hitting you a little too early into the night for your liking as you stir the olive on a toothpick around in small circles.
