⭐Britain⭐

"Hello-" Britain jumped slightly but eventually smiled as a gentle weight rested over his shoulder, EU's golden eyes glancing at him happily before he pulled away and straightened up again, brushing his hand against his shoulder affectionately.

"Hello, you." Britain answered back, turning around to face him properly. They still weren't at the stage where they were comfortable giving welcome-home kisses, like any normal couple, but he liked where they were now. He continued checking in the oven, while EU took off his black jacket, losing the tie as well before unbuttoning the first button on the collar of his white dress shirt.

"Are you making something?" EU asked from behind as he heard the ding, Britain quickly slipping on oven gloves and opening the door. A gush of hot air came out, followed by a large, steaming ceramic dish.

"Yeah. Dinner. For our date." He explained, setting down the hot dish onto a wooden slab and taking off the gloves. "Oh- I thought you meant that we would order food from outside. I didn't expect you to cook, if you told me I would've offered to come back sooner and help out-"

"No No! I-It's fine. I could manage on my own. You didn't have to." Britain stammered quickly, walking down from his stepstool and reaching the ground again. EU's golden eyes were looking at him carefully, almost shyly in a way, but he smiled again and nodded slightly.

Britain got started on pulling open drawers and getting out utensils, setting them on the table. He looked up again to see EU holding a whole candelabra and lighting the white candles on them, shaking out the match before setting the brass holder in the center of their table. A blush rushed up his neck when their eyes met and EU snapped the lights off, letting the warm light from the little bulbs of flame illuminate the room.

The food he made was still hot, steaming less when he carried it over and set it down on the edge of the table, letting EU help him take it to the center. "What's this?" He asked curiously, looking down at the golden brown, rich smelling dish. "A shepherd's pie." Britain answered, smiling faintly. He continued walking around to get a bottle of soda water out of the fridge, pouring it into two chilled glasses with a piece of lime in each of them, quickly making their mocktails and bringing them to the table.

"It smells really good." EU complimented, picking up his knife and starting to cut into the pie. He set down the first piece onto Britain's plate politely before getting his own.

They started eating in the comfortable silence and warmth of candlelight, trading small talk, even though it was mostly coming from EU, talking about how work went and what shenanigans did the rest of the European bunch come up with this time. Britain smiled through his bites, hair clipped aside so that he could see through his full vision, unblocked by white strands.

And also mostly silence from his alters. All of them agreed that when it was their turn for a date they were to try and stay out of it as much as they could, even though things couldn't be avoided. Like Scotland trying to convince Ireland to not eat every sweet food they could think of and conjure in the depths of their mindscape.

"This tastes really good too, you're a great cook-" EU said, picking up his napkin and gently wiping his mouth with it. Britain smiled and finally ducked his head down in attempt to hide his heated face, putting a forkful of mash potato in his mouth. "I have a lot of practice." He said simply, not going into the details. EU hummed in understanding and took a sip of his drink, going back to his food.
