EU bought the ring exactly one month and 3 hours ago. He distinctively remembered looking at the clock while the little black velvet box was placed into his hand, at 12:56 pm, 34 minutes before his lunch break ended. The level of anxiety, excitement and joy within him during the walk from the jeweler back to the office building was something he'd never experienced before.
One month, 3 hours and one minute after that moment, the ring had still yet to be laid on any person's finger.
He sighed again as he turned the small ring between his thumb and index finger, the diamond in the center sparkling in the afternoon light. His office room was quiet, other than the low hum of the air conditioning unit.
The ring was pretty. At least based on common sense, it would be categorized under the 'pretty' section. Most people would label a proposal ring as pretty. They were associated with things that were good, and happy. EU wondered if it'll look better if placed against his partner's dark blue skin.
He was distracted again. He was starting to do that a lot, after buying the ring. His paperwork went ignored spread out over his desk. It took a second for him to register that there was someone knocking at his door, and he should probably be scrambling to keep the ring back safe in his drawer again.
"Come in!"
Germany slipped into his room, holding another handful of papers and closing the door behind him. "Submitting the last bit for today, most of them are already packing up and ready to go home." He said with a smile.
"Good. Nice. I- I mean that's good. There's nothing else to do, anyways. Might as well go home early." EU answered, clearing his throat and pretending to be busy flicking through the pile of paperwork Germany brought. Some random stock exchange and interest rate information, nothing important that couldn't be sorted and filed tomorrow.
Honey golden eyes flickered mischievously behind a pair of glasses, hands pressing against his desk. "Woran denkst du? (What's on your mind?)"
"Huh? Nichts. (Nothing.)" He said abruptly, snapping his head right back up to look at him, expression calm and innocent. Germany's eyes narrowed, unwavering.
"Liar. You never have 'nothing' in that busy mind of yours." He hummed with a grin on his face. EU stared right back at him, shuffling the papers and tapping them back into order against the table.
"Will that be all?"
Germany snorted and shook his head with a laugh, taking his hands off his desk. "You're funny." He grinned, watching as EU dipped his head graciously and went back to formal, unexpressive boss mode.
