April’s phone rang, piercing through the ‘peace and quiet’ with shrill noise. She answered it.
“April,” her father’s voice said on the other end of the phone.
“Yeah?” April asked, glad that it was not FaceTime. She didn’t want her dad to see her ‘mad face’. And she definitely wasn’t going to tell her dad what the ‘situation’ was.
“Have you heard from your mother lately?” Dad asked, as if reading her mind.
“No,” April lied. “But I heard she’s in Wisconsin.” She was sure that this would lead away from the subject of her and her mother having contact.
“What?!” Dad said in a shocked voice. “I am going to contact her now.”
And with that he ended the phone call.
Then April checked her messages…
...to find about a dozen from her mother. Well, not exactly a dozen, but close.

April, I saw you today… is it really you?
April, I have to talk to you.
I can explain…
C’mon, please... I have my reasons!
April?...
You know I still love you
Please? Where are you?
Text me when you get my messages please.
Just tell me… I have to tell you something.

April frowned and texted back:

You know I still love you
No, I really don’t.
You don’t either…
Or else you wouldn’t have left.

Satisfied but a little bit guilty, April put her phone down and let her thoughts of her mother take over her.
