The girl looked at her parents in wonder, and so much disbelief.

She didn't understand. How could they be here, when they were...

Gulping heavily, understanding dawning on her, she stuttered, "Am I... am I dead?"

Her mother approached her quickly, cupping her cheek the way she always used to, before whispering, "Not quite my darling. You're hanging in the balance, because you drowned." She tusked, pulling the girl into her arms, "I never knew the medical field would be such a dangerous one, lest I would have warned you against it."

"Ophy, darling, why don't you let her breath? She's already drowned in the real world, no need to suffocate her in the afterlife as well." Stated an amused sounding man.

The woman looked at her husband with narrowed eyes, "Don't lie Elijah, you simply want to hug her yourself."

"Yes!" He exclaimed.

"Well then, no one is stopping you from doing that, love."

Strong, sturdy arms wrapped around the girl and her mother, and she sniffled slightly, tears falling from her eyes.

His hand ran through his daughter's hair tenderly, "My sweets, we have missed you so."

Back in the real world, the surgeons were attempting to revive the girl, with Bailey finally saying, "Chief, I know the hypothermia is protective to her vital organs but how much longer do you think we can go on like this?"

"I've seen people last as long as four hours."

Hesitating, she continued,  "Yeah, but...

"No," he interrupted her sternly, "No. This is Elijah and Ophelia's child, my goddaughter. I've held her in my hands the day she was born..."

Approaching him slowly, Miranda laid a gentle hand on his arm, "We're all on the same side here, Chief."

Richard nodded, "Her body temp is at 86 degrees. She's not dead until she's warm and dead. We need to warm her up to 98.6 and start her heart."

"Yes sir."

"Let's do a gastric lavage with warm fluids." He ordered, and they all rushed to comply, when Addison's pager beeped.

She glanced at it, before sighing, and looking at them regretfully, "it's, uh, my Jane Doe. I can page another surgeon though, it's alright. I will do that."

"No, go. She wouldn't want you to drop a patient for her," mumbled the chief, glancing at his family on the table.

The woman nodded, wiping the tears in her eyes, before hurrying to the door. Before she could leave though, Bailey added, "Just...they're waiting for you so...whatever you choose to say will..."
